SPIDER-WAVE TRANSMITTER
Classification: Terrestrial technology
Creator: Doctor Doom (Victor von Doom)
User/Possessors: Doctor Doom
First Appearance: Amazing Spider-Man I#5 (October, 1963)
Powers/Abilities/Functions: The Spider-Wave Transmitter was similar to a radio transmitter. A spider was held with a large glass dome connected to a special microphone. While an electrical field surrounded the spider's dome, words spoken through the microphone were then broadcast through the spider along a wavelength which only spiders - or people with a Spider-Sense - could receive.
History:
(Amazing Spider-Man I#5) - Believing the media reports about Spider-Man being a criminal to be true, Doctor Doom built the Spider-Wave Transmitter so that he could contact Spider-Man and propose an alliance with him. Doom knew Spider-Man had the sensory powers of a spider and so reasoned the hero could be contacted in this way. The transmission reached Spider-Man and he followed it back to its source, leading him to Doctor Doom.
Comments: Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.
The Spider-Wave Transmitter might work similarly to Hank Pym's cybernetic helmet used in communicating with ants.
