Powers/Abilities: Octopus had eight arms and could wield a gun in each; there was no evidence that he was octidexterous, and he may have been just firing wildly, relying on quantity over quality in terms of his shooting. However, he was dexterous enough to catch a gun pulled from one hand with a different appendage. He probably possessed low level superhuman strength, since he was able to match the pre-furry Beast in hand-to-hand fighting.

   He could spin his arms rapidly like a fan to generate a stream of warm air, and use his arms on one side of his body to absorb energy projected towards him like a lightning rod, then expel said energy back towards the source via his other arms.

   He was slightly radioactive, and those whose bare flesh came into physical contact with him would feel a tingling sensation. Being encased in lead reflected this radiation back at him and restored him to human, though whether this was a temporary or permanent state was unrevealed.

   Given his webbed feet, buggy-fishlike eyes, and general piscine appearance, he may well have been amphibious.

History:
(Edições Gep#4/2 (fb) - BTS) - The man who later declared himself Octopus "the terrible" was suspected to be (see comments) originally an evil scientist who bombarded himself with radiation in order to transform himself into a superhuman. As a result he grew an extra six arms and his appearance altered to make him look like a mixture of a fish and octopus, with scaly skin, flipper-like feet, fins on his thighs, and protruding eyes. Arming himself with eight guns, he went on a rampage, shooting wildly and spreading panic. 

(Edições Gep#4/2) - Alerted by Cerebro to the emergence of a new mutant the X-Men soon arrived to confront the menace. Octopus informed the new arrivals that he knew of them and had been waiting for them (see comments), and he opened fire on them. The telekinetic Marvel Girl tried to yank the pistols out of his hands but could only do so one at a time, and he easily caught the guns he dropped with other hands. Crowing over his victory, he announced a challenge to the entire mutant team. Iceman stepped up and tried to freeze the villain, but the Octopus dropped all his guns, declaring that he wouldn't need them to defeat the remaining X-Men, then began rapidly windmilling all his arms, thus generating a blast of hot air that cancelled out Iceman's efforts. Beast tried next, pouncing on the Octopus, but was unable to evade so many arms grabbing at him, and was tossed aside. However, the physical contact left Beast's bare feet tingling, and he realized Octopus was radioactive. Next it was Angel's turn, but an attempt at an aerial attack almost saw the Octopus rip his wings off, and when Cyclops tried to strike Octopus with his optic blasts the villain absorbed the energy with one set of arms and then projected it back via the other side. Having formed a hypothesis about their foe, Beast retrieved a radiation detector from the X-Men's helicopter and again leapt at the Octopus, who easily deflected the apelike X-Men once more, unaware that the Beast had merely wanted to get close enough to confirm his suspicions. With the detector registering radiation as anticipated, Beast bounded away, leaving his perplexed teammates wondering why he had fled the battle. The remaining X-Men surrounded Octopus, intending to try a simultaneous assault, but before they could move in Beast returned carrying a large lead dome he had "borrowed" from a nearby factory (see comments), and dropped it over the Octopus' head, completely covering him. His radiation contained and reflected back at him, the Octopus reverted to normal and passed out. Having waited sufficient time for this to happen, the X-Men confirmed their foe was subdued, and left him for the authorities to find and arrest.

   Octopus "the terrible" appeared in the Brazilian comic Edições Gep, a title licensed to reprint Marvel stories in Brazil, but which also featured several new tales.

   Beast deduces that because Octopus was radioactive he must have been an evil scientist who bombarded himself with radiation to transform himself. While that's certainly a possibility, it's not confirmation nor guaranteed to be accurate. After all, Sandman got transformed after being bombarded by radiation, but he was no scientist nor did he undergo the bombardment deliberately, whether with or without the intention of gaining powers. However, I think we can assume that the writer intended Beast to be conveying Octopus' correct origin. Though apparently not a mutant, he somehow triggered Cerebro; perhaps the radiation activated latent mutant abilities?

   We're not told which city or town he goes on a rampage in, but it had to be somewhere close enough to Xavier's School for the X-Men to reach him fairly quickly. His pronouncement that he'd been waiting for them might not have meant he was expecting the X-Men specifically, but rather than he presumed a rampage would draw out some of the area's superheroes, such as Spider-Man, the Avengers, etc. He didn't seem to have a reason for going on a rampage - he wasn't stealing anything, not did he announce any plans to conquer the world or anything similar, so maybe he was just seeking to draw out some superhuman opponents so he could test his new abilities and prove his own might? After all, once he beat Marvel Girl he challenged the rest of the team, so that might have been his intention from the outset.

   Despite being called Octopus, while he's got eight arms he's got a total of ten limbs, making him more accurately a decapod.

   Where did the Beast find a large metal dome so quickly? He said it came from a factory, so I think what he used was a crucible, the kind used for pouring large quantities of molten metal into.

   This profile was completed on 08/25/2026, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th anniversary's celebratory event to represent Edições Gep.
