Classification: Terrestrial technology
Creator: Mole Man (see comments)
User/Possessors: Mole Man
Enemies: Hulk (Bruce Banner)
First Appearance: Tales to Astonish I#80/2 (June, 1966)
Powers/Abilities/Functions: The Octo-Sapien robot stood about eight feet tall. It had a humanoid form and eight arms, each ending with a ray blaster which could fire gravity rays, shock blasts, and life-reduction rays. Controlled by the Mole Man's verbal commands, the robot had enough strength to stand up to the Hulk, although its internal circuitry was vulnerable to moisture.
(Tales to Astonish I#80/2 (fb) - BTS) - The Mole Man had captured Tyrannus's subterranean Fountain of Youth; because of this, Tyrannus grew older and weaker with each passing hour. The Mole Man planned to patiently wait and just let the inexorable passage of time allow him to defeat Tyrannus forever.
(Tales to Astonish I#80/2) - In a desperate attempt to win back the water well, Tyrannus teleported the Hulk to his underground empire and coerced his aid.
Upon hearing from a messenger that advance scouts had spotted the Hulk working for Tyrannus, the Mole Man unleashed his armies and the Octo-Sapien robot, and attacked Tyrannus's forces first. When the Hulk seemed to be winning the upper-hand against the Mole Man's army, he called in the Octo-Sapien to attack the green goliath. The robot pinned the Hulk against a wall with its gravity rays while it fired a combination of its other rays against him. The Octo-Sapien seemed to be winning when the jade giant made a last desperate lunge and hurled the Octo-Sapien off-balance so that its final lethal blast missed its mark. The Hulk then knocked the robot into the waters of the Fountain of Youth, where it short-circuited and exploded.
Comments: Created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Bill Everett.
The Octo-Sapien was likely leftover Deviant technology discovered by the Mole Man.
