    He had some level of superhuman power and/or mastery of chi to be able to challenge the Bride of Nine Spiders.

    Although tearing his heart from his body left him seemingly dead, he eventually revived and regained his full vitality

    His assaults include the Five Brutal Torments, a slash to the mid-section with his claws; the Blood of the Ten Shrieking Nightmares, an energy-laced slash with his sharp nails; Night's Smothering Darkness, in which his pony tail, even where severed from his body became stronger than steel cable and could constrict and smother another being; and the Gushing Fount of Merciful Torment, a blast of energy from the hole in his chest.

    His fingernails were like talons, able to rend flesh, and he had a long pony tail wrapped like a whip and ending in a sharp set of prongs; this also served as a flail-like weapon.

    His canine teeth were somewhat elongated and sharp.

History:

(Captain America and Namor#635.1 (fb) - BTS) - At some point, Murderous Lion joined the group known as the Covenant -- including Vanessa Baker, Ulysses Bloodstone, Jefferson Chambers, Wyatt Crowley, the Menace -- who had gathered in various forms for many years, their members having put aside their various differences to prevent threats to the universe so terrible that no one else could handle.

(Wolverine IV#314 (fb) - BTS / Wolverine IV#316 (fb) - BTS) <1934 A.D.>- The Covenant hired Logan to slay the Dreaming Maiden, one of the progeny of the demonic entity known as the Drifting Chaos, the Coming Shadow and the Creeping Ghost. She could apparently summon her father to Earth, which the Covenant apparently believed could spell Earth's doom.

(Wolverine IV#314 (fb) - BTS / Wolverine IV#315 (fb) - BTS) - He confronted her in Marrakesh, intending to slay her. However, he ultimately let her live.

(Wolverine IV#316 (fb) - BTS) - Wolverine hid the Dreaming Maiden in a cave on the Isla de la Sombra off the coast of Morocco, telling her to stop dreaming or the Covenant would keep coming after her. Shedding a tear, she apparently covered herself into a crystalline form.

(Wolverine IV#317) - Murderous Lion was with the rest of the Covenant in Shanghai when Logan returned and told them that the Dreaming Maiden was dead. Murderous Lion asked how he killed her, but Logan just stated that he had done the job. Although the Covenant wished to offer him more work, Logan declined and departed.

(Wolverine IV#314 (fb) - BTS) - The Covenant's Vanessa Baker realized the truth, but as she had never been comfortable with killing the Maiden, she kept this secret from the rest of the Covenant.

(Immortal Weapons#2 (fb) - BTS) - <1935 A.D.> - At the Valley of the Gates, Murderous Lion allegedly faced and slew a thousand enemies.

(Immortal Weapons#2 (fb)) - Murderous Lion announced his victory to the Bride of Nine Spiders, telling her he did it all so he could stand beside her, having proven himself worthy. He further proclaimed that he stood above all others as her most exquisite match.

    Unimpressed, the Bride asked if she was to be treated as a trophy in the childish games of mortal wretches, and she told him that he was either a madman or a fool, as only a madman would profane such a sacred place with this mockery of honorable combat, and that only a fool would believe defeating such lowly adversaries would cast him as pleasing in her eyes.

    As she dodged the whip-like flay of his ponytail and then caught it in her hand, pulled it down, smashed her palm into his chin and kicked him back, the Bride advised him that too long had he delayed her from her errands and that -- assuming his "ridiculous contest" had proven him worthy of anything more than her contempt -- surely he knew that the deadliest of spiders kill and devour their mate.
