menhyrr_race-92553-dl3-full-armoredPowers/Abilities: The Menhyrr have advanced abilities that seemed to be a mixture of science and mysticism.

They can telepathically communicate with at least certain humans (such as Jeff McClure and Ellen Parker).menhyrr_race-92553-dl4-healing

They can heal injuries in others

They apparently use certain types of crystals for power, both for their own technology and to recharge their own personal energies.

They possess advanced technology, including armored exoskeletons to presumably provide protection +.- enhanced strength, as well as a pair of servo-arms.

They utilize large ships that are capable of interstellar as well as entering an atmosphere and maintaining a position apparently several hundred feet above the ground for several days, at least. They utilize disk-like crafts to travel up and down an apparent tractor beam.

The ships have multiple layers of habitats to support life forms of various types (including a nursery to incubate/hatch the young). The ships also contain an armory, a bridge for the crew to navigate/control the ship, a chamber for using the crystals to recharge the energies of crew, among almost certainly numerous other functions.

They also utilized single person aircraft.

They utilize drones to assist in collection and control of specimens, as well as in defense/assault as needed.

They possess large tubular "guns" that can fire powerful energy blasts able to shatter stone walls or kill a person with a single blast.

Traits: The Menhyrr are peaceful beings dedicated to preserving and perpetuating the cycle of life and bringing life to new worlds.

They are willing to defend themselves and slay those who attack them and/or threaten their mission.

menhyrr_race-92553-dl3-ship-habitatHistory:
(Dreadlands#4 (fb)) - The Menhyrr existed on an unidentified world in harmony and balance dedicated to preserving the cycle of life.

(Dreadlands#4 (fb)) - The Menhyrr sent out at least one ship, if not many, to travel to apparently hundreds of worlds, collect some of the local fauna and flora, as well as soil samples, to propagate the garden (presumably referring to the environment on their ship) and to bring new species to new worlds.

(Dreadlands#2 (fb) - BTS / Dreadlands#4 (fb)) <150 million BC> - A ship of Menhyrr arrived on Earth during its late Juarassic Period.

They began gathering dinosaurs and transporting them into the garden on their ship.

(Dreadlands#2 - BTS) - The Menhyrr ship, which appeared to be a giant floating island, was observed by the last surivivors of the military contingent -- led by Lt. Trask and including Bolter & Schneider, as well as the non-military McDonald who had sided with them -- of a group of humans who had inadvertantly traveled back in time from the dystopian future of 2033 A.D.

(Dreadlands#3) - As armored Menhyrr collected plant and soil samples, their drones rounded up a number dinosaurs, which were gathered atop platforms that then floated up a beam into the ship.

When some carnivorous dinosaurs arrived to attack the herbivorous dinosaurs, the drones scanned the carnivores and then used some energy beam to zap them and drive them off.

.

menhyrr_race-92553-dl3-full-shot(Dreadlands#3) - Wishing to get into the ship, Lt. Trask led his men to hide among the dinosaurs gathered by the drones, and they were transported into the ship. There they observed the immense garden, the aliens arranging the dinosaurs, and incubator and nursery facilities to help propagate the dinosaurs; the ship's bridge; and their armory. While Trask claimed one of the weapons, MacDonald found a number of the Menhyrr floating, seated, over energy crystals of some sort. Trask identified the aliens as hibernating, allowing them to rotate and rest their crew.

When they encountered a peaceful, unarmored Menhyrr, Trask fired his machine gun at it, apparently killing it. The other Menhyrr sensed their dying crewman's pain, as did Ellen Parker, one of the scientific/peaceful contingent of time travelers. The humans then traveled back down the beam emmanating from the ship, after which Trask stole one of their ships. Discovering them, one of the drones slew Bolter, after which Trask destroyed the drone with the weapon he had taken from the aliens. Towing McDonald and Schneider behind him, Trask flew the ship toward the scientific contingent's base. The drones eventually shot Trask's ship down, but he survived and encountered Lt. Jeff McClure and Pyke, who had stayed with the science group, as well as Ellen Parker - other woman?.

After driving off the drones, the group returned to science group's base via campylosaurs trained by Pyke.

When some armored Menhyrr and drones arrived, Trask attacked them and made it seem as if the aliens had attacked them in the first place. Grey was slain by Menhyrr fire as were some of Pyke's campylosaurs, and the rest of the humans fled. menhyrr_race-92553-dl4-armoredfoot

McClure found one of the Menhyrr trapped under a tree, and it mentally communicated with him, making him realize that Trask had initiated the conflict. When Trask arrived with his weapon, McClure refused to get out of his way, and Trask slew McClure. When the rest of the humans arrived, Trask told them that the alien had slain McClure. Trask plotted to bring a nuclear warhead he had brought back with them to slay the aliens.

(Dreadlands#4) - While Trask convinced 4-5 of the remaining nine humans to assault the alien ship, the sleeping Ellen received a telepathic message from the captured Menhyrr who shared both his people's mission and how Trask had both initiated the assault on the Menhyrr and had slain McClure.

Ellen subsequently freed the Menhyrr and fled with it, interfering with Trask's plans to use the alien as a shield to get into its ship. Hiding out from Trask's men, Ellen and the Menhyrr were washed into a dinosaur graveyard.

Trask and his group ambushed the loan Menhyrr on the ground by the ship, after which they used the platform to gain entrance into the ship. When Trask revealed his plans to use the nuclear warhead to destroy the alien ship, someof the the group rebelled against him. Trask's firing at the rebelling Reynolds blew holes in the walls containing the Menhyrr-captured dinosaurs, whose rampages split up the group.

Ellen and the Menhyrr she had rescued then arrived aboard the ship, and she told the others what she had learned from the Menhyrr, notably Trask's culpability for their problems. As Trask's last ally, Schneider, abandoned him, he prepared to shoot her in the back, but the Menhyrr blocked his path; and when he fired on them, Ellen leapt in front of the Menhyrr and took the hit. After Trask fled on a Menhyrr personal airship, Menhyrr, humans pursued him on similar crafts, ultimately shooting him down.Trask crashed in the jungle and was devoured by a carnivorous dinosaur.

Meanwhile the Menhyrr healed Ellen, and Lyndon disabled Trask's warhead.

Over the next two months, the Menhyrr used their advanced techno-mystic abilties to help the humans rebuild their base and then to leave them a power-filled pyramid that would provide them with an ongoing power, light, medicine and protection. By the seventh week, the Menhyrr had to leave to continue to their galaxies-spanning mission.

Parting as friends, the Menhyrr warned the humans that their gift were given with the understanding that they would not disturb the natural balance of what they called "the Garden," and they would have to learn to adapt and understand the new world in which they lived.

What's in a name?

I wonder about the name of the Menhyrr:
Was it based on Men-Her, as if they were androgynous?
Or maybe it was meant to be like "manure" because they were farmers?
Or maybe it had some other meaning
Or was just a name that sounded cool without any deeper meaning?

Earth-92553 In the apocalyptic future circa 2033 A.D., a number of humans used a time machine to escape terrorists, inadvertently arriving in 150 million BC along with some Rabs (genetically engineered rabbit-rat hybrids). Lt. Trask led the soldiers among them to attack the extraterrestrial Menhyrr who were gathering dinosaurs to propagate species on new worlds. Ellen Parker learned the truth about the Menhyrr's benign nature, helping them complete their mission and depart, while Trask was slain by a dinosaur. The remaining humans established a village in the past. Dreadlands #1 (1992)

CLARIFICATIONS:
The Menhyrr should be distinguished from:

crystals
menhyrr_race-92553-dl4-powermenhyrr_race-92553-dl3-crystals     The Menhyrr store power within unidentified types of crystals.

They apparently rotated crews, within some going into a form of hibernation for an undefined period of time while their personal energies were recharged by their crystals.

Before departing, the Menhyrr provided the humans power-filled pyramid that would provide them with an ongoing power, light, medicine and protection.

--Dreadlands#3

Note: The nature of the crystals and the energy they provided is unrevealed. I am ASSuming that the pyramid was derived from the crystals in some fashion, but that is unconfirmed.

drones

menhyrr_race-92553-dl3-drones-collectfaunamenhyrr_race-92553-dl3-drones-zapcarnos    The Menhyrr utilize drones to assist in collection and control of specimens, as well as in defense/assault as needed.

Hovering and/or in air via unidentified means (anti-gravity, magnetic forces, other forms of propulsion), the drones consist a thorax/torso with two energy or other types of packs on the back, and head-like structure, and a pair of arms, one with a hand, and the other ending in a long-tip from which they could project an energy to prod, repel and/or slay other beings.

The drones could also project an energy that allowed them to scan other beings and to apparently determine their nature and abilities.

personal aircraft
"sky cycle"
menhyrr_race-92553-dl3-armored-collectfauna      For travel on a world from which they were gathering flora and fauna, the Menhyrr used large single person aircraft, which could fly at low or higher altitudes. They also could fire unspecified energy blasts to fight off or destroy others in their proximity.

Although they were single person crafts, they could tow a car that could carry a few others.
Anti-collision sensors.

Trask stole and crashed one of these devices, and he stole another, which pursuing Menhyrr and humans shot down.

Amongst said weapons was some sort of two-hand-held energy cannon capable of firing some sort of energy blast.

The human Lt. Trask stole one of the cannon-like weapons after Schneider first tested it out. Trask used it against both the Menhyrr and any human who threatened his plans.
