History:
(
2099 Unlimited#5/2 fb) - BTS) <Circa the 2090s> - Computer hardware ace Cyd was did freelance work for Alchemax, who wanted the research of the unidentified man who would become Duke Stratosphere, at the time a software programmer for Trans-National Technologies.

Alchemax decided to put Cyd on the inside rather than take out the programmer.

marquez-cyd-928-2099ad-couchmarquez-cyd-928-2099ad-glidewduke(2099 Unlimited#5/2 fb)) - Cyd was brought in as "a hardware ace from the coast" to work with the not-yet-Duke Stratosphere programmer. Brilliant though he was, the administration knew this programmer needed a partner to focus his work.

The programmer's supervisor introduced him to Cyd, advising him that she was going to work with him on the neurotech interface project.

Cyd's functional design sense complemented and realized his theoretical programming. In a frenzy of inspiration, they spent every waking hour in the lab, unaware their passion for work was becoming a passion for each other.

Together they created the basis of every cyberspace interface used at least as far in the future of 2099 A.D., notably a chip that translated the electronic pulse of cyberspace into direct cerebral stimulation.

Playing in a cyberspace made more sensuously resolved thanks to their breakthrough technology, they fell in love.

As of August 5th of an unspecified year, they were young, successful and hopelessly smitten.

(2099 Unlimited#5/2 fb) - BTS) - However, on November 10th of presumably that same year, Cyd was missing without any explanation when the future Duke returned home.

The future Duke's superior told him that Cyd had been grabbed by a competitor in a head hunting raid.

Devastated, the future Duke found no solace in the lab, which was a constant reminder of Cyd's absence. He doggedly searched the net, finding no clue to her whereabouts.

Plunging into a deep depression, the future Duke believed that the Trans-National Technologies administration didn't want him to find Cyd, and so he faked his own death to escape his lifetime contract with Trans-Nash, obliterating all physical and electronic records of his corporate existence.

After years of fruitlessly crisscrossing the globe in search of Cyd, the future Duke reluctantly abandoned his quest. Resigned to a life alone, he threw himself back into his neurotech research, eventually going beyond the work he and Cyd had begun at Trans-Nash. Developing the means to simultaneously operate and exist in both the real world and Cyberspace, he adopted the identity of Duke Stratosphere.

(2099 Unlimited#5/2 fb) - BTS) - Cyd figured that her former lover was the enigmatic Duke Stratosphere.

(2099 Unlimited#5/2 (fb)) - Cyd was the first to crack the Chromosome Vault, the Gordian Knot of Cyberspace, supposedly impenetrable and rumored to contain the DNA smarquez-cyd-928-2099ad-modern-fulltinyequences of four of the last century's most powerful beings. She was met there by Duke Stratosphere, who believed he was going to be the first to access the Vault. As he reached for his prize, Cyd stopped him, noting surprising him with presence and survival, and she apologized for vanishing on him, telling him it was part of her job as a freelancer for Alchemax. Duke asked if everything they had was a lie, and she told him, "Not everything, which is why it's hard for me to do this," as she took the DNA codes she had sought and then vanished through a drop hole. Duke pursued, but she eluded him.

(2099 Unlimited#5/2 fb) - BTS) - Duke and Cyd reunited under unrevealed circumstances.

(2099 Unlimited#5/2) - After Mr. Bongo had related Duke Stratosphere's history, the Duke confronted him and briefly switched off his program. Cyd then arrived with her pet dog, and as they hugged, the Duke related how his program had taken on a life of its own. Cyd asked what Bongo had been saying this time, and Duke just noted that he never got it right.

As they walked away and made plans for dinner that night, Duke mentioned that she had never told him what she had done with the DNA from the Vault, and she told him she would tell him once he told her what he had aced from Stark-Fujikawa.

(2099 Unlimited#3/3 (fb) - BTS) - Duke Stratosphere, presumably alongside Cydney Marquez, created Kid Current as a unique cyberspace being with no analog counterpart beyond the net.

As Duke Stratosphere said that Mr. Bongo never got it right, elements of the history he revealed may be called into question...
