kid_current-928-2099ad-onheurisPowers/Abilities: A cyberspace construct, Kid Current existed in Cyberspace, interacting with others in Cyberspace, most of whom were avatars of humans on Earth.

With aid from Crazy Bear and Nikola Tesla, he was able to briefly take over the form of a living person.

He can create his own at least semi-autonomous Cyberspace construct.

He is further served by his horse/steed, Heuris, and his dog, Cursor.

Kid Current seems to be skilled at making friends and allies of new associates.

Height: Unrevealed (approximately 5'8"; relative only to Duke Stratosphere, whose cyberspace Avatar likely matched his human form)
Weight: Unrevealed (approximately 150 lbs.)
Eyes: Unrevealed
Hair: Brown
Note: As a Cyberspace construct, Kid has no real form and could presumably have his programming adjusted to alter his appearance at will.

History:
(
2099 Unlimited#3/3 (fb) - BTS) - Legendary netglider Duke Stratosphere, presumably alongside his lover, Cydney Marquez, created Kid Current as a unique cyberspace being with no analog counterpart beyond the net.

Duke also either created Kid Current's steed, Heuris, and his dog, Cursor, or co-created them with Cydney, or Kid Current designed his own steed and dog.

Kid Current, in turn, created his own sidekick, Scrappy, which Duke considered most astonishing.

(2099 Unlimited#3/3) - After Cursor sensed -- via leftover textual compositions -- a threat both vague and vast, Kid Current put him atop Heuris, whom he rode to encounter Duke Stratosphere. As Scrappy approached, however, his mule popped out of existence after which Scrappy de-rezed (lost resolution) and vanished. Kid Current lamented that he must have blown the math, but Duke advised him that the people in the organic world were messing with the Earth's magnetic field, with which Cyberspace was intimately associated. Duke continued that the independent constructs would be affected first, after which Netgliders might lose vital memories, and so he instructed Kid to "snoop around the trading post." Before they departed, Heuris informed his master that he thirsted, and Kid, noting that the datastreams were running dry, poured the last of the liquid crystal into his hat. While Heuris was refreshed and felt he could make it to the trading post, Cursor was now hungry.

Heuris subsequently carried Kid and Cursor to the Pub of Patience, where the Kid ordered a glass of milk for himself and Cursor, although the Milkbarmaid warned him that prices had skyrocketed. Brotor the biker then appeared, noting that he had been a convict before he had become a construct.

Kid Current subsequently prepared to ride Heuris with Cursor to Crazy Bear's tee pee, but he was stopped by Queen Creole, a fellow messenger, who told him that they both had felt that the "meat people" were hiding something. Kid asked her if there was a spell that he might take on a meat body and walk among men, and she directed him to seek the aid of Papa Legba. kid_current-928-2099ad-guitar

In exchange for a tune on Kid's Gibson guitar, Crazy Bear allowed Kid to use "the 'scope" to commune with Papa Legba who directed him to Nikola Tesla, who had monitored the application of his inventions via Cyberspace since his discorporation. Tesla informed Kid that Alchemax planned to tap Earth's magnetic field via scalar waves to provide free electric power for all, but that some planned to botch the experiment, flooding the atmosphere with deadly alpha and beta rays normally deflected by the field. Tesla then gave Kid the frequency to visit Garmont Grannis at Alchemax's New York headquarters. Kid took over the form of Grannis' assistant, whom Grannis was planning to send into Cyberspace to learn about the constructs on whom Grannis felt they were becoming too dependent and whose continued existence could not be allowed to interfere with their plans.

Thanking Grannis for the use of his minion's from, Kid Current told him that he could not allow him to botch this scalar thing. When Grannis asked, "You and what army?", Kid punched him off his feet, replying, "The Merry Marvel Marching Society." After recovering, Grannis called his superior, Mr. Thorne, informing him that the Patagonian subcontractors were planning to botch the EM project. His hand hurting (and possibly broken) from the punch, Kid bade farewell to Grannis, who put a blaster gun to his head and apparently killed himself.

As Kid prepared to depart, Leni Kalehaleha, operator of the Milkbarmaid construct rushed up, told him that the cybernetic community thanked him, and gave him a big kiss on the lips. His heart pounding and his mirror shades all steamed up, Kid suggested that they go into the generator room for some shock therapy. Leni instead introduced Kid to her husband, Octavio Tchelitchak, operator of the Brotor construct, who told him that they had tried to slip him some clues as to what was going on without being killed. Kid appeared to shed a tear, presumably upon learning Leni was married.

Leni then informed Kid that Tyler Stone was on his way down, and she asked him if he could change his appearance back to that of the punk he had inhabited, and Kid did so as he noted that the spell was wearing off anyway.

(2099 Unlimited#3/3 - BTS) - Proclaiming that a man had died there, Tyler Stone asked what happened, but Leni told him that they had just gotten back from lunch to find his wetware splattered all over the wall. The man Kid had inhabited was quite confused as to what had happened.

(2099 Unlimited#3/3) - Back in Cyberspace, as Kid strummed his guitar, Heuris noted that he seemed so serious and asked what he had done in the meatworld, and Kid proclaimed that he had kissed a girl!

Kid Current's fate in the apparently merged reality of Earth-2099 will likely remain unrevealed.

There was a lot going on in this short story and a number of interesting characters, although some of the actual plot points were unclear to me.

Kemosabe was what Tonto called the Lone Ranger. According to Wikipedia, it is derived from gimoozaabi, an Ojibwe and Potawatomi word that means, "he/she who looks out in secret." In the Lone Ranger, it has occasionally been translated as "trusty scout" or faithful friend." Duke Stratosphere almost certainly was familiar with the term from the Lone Ranger and was using it in the latter context.
