Powers/Abilities: Magar the Mystic could either summon the ghosts of specific people or create ghostly entities who resembled and believed themselves to be such people; such spirits could only remain in the material world for a set time. He was impervious to virtually any form of physical harm, teleport himself across thousands of miles, run at least 100 miles per hour, enabling him to dodge artillery shells, and lift perhaps 5 tons, although he could be successfully bound in iron chains (likely owing to the traditional efficacy of iron against magic).

History:

(Red Raven Comics I#1/6 (fb) - BTS) - In the late 19th century, Magar was a magical adventurer but he entered a state of dormancy in Egypt during which he learned how to communicate with and re-create the spirits of the dead.

(Red Raven Comics I#1/6) - Awakening from his slumber shortly after Nazi Germany had started World War II, Magar mystically sensed the war that had started. He summoned up a spirit of Solomon for advice; Solomon told Magar to concentrate his efforts on saving the world from destruction. Magar used his magic to teleport himself to Asia and observe the conflict there, then went to the Maginot Line in France and watched the Germans battling the French.

    Magar summoned up the spirit of Mata Hari to divulge the reasons for the bloodshed. Mata Hari informed Magar to warn the forces who were preserving democracy on the Earth that the Germans were planning a blitzkrieg attack the following day. Magar went running through the battlefield but accidentally ran right into a German machine gun nest. The Germans swiftly chained Magar to a post, but a plane dropped a bomb on the machine gun nest, killing the Germans.

    Still bound to the post, Magar summoned up the spirit of Harry Houdini to set him free; Houdini snapped the chains and Magar ran across the battlefield to the French lines, asking to see the commanding officer. The commander recognized Magar and listened as he explained what he knew of the coming blitzkrieg. Magar apologized that he couldn't assist them with his magic because his recent use re-creating spirits had stripped him of his power.

    When the blitzkrieg arrived, Magar had evidently regained his power and conjured up the spirit of Napoleon Bonaparte to assist France. Napoleon issued orders to the French forces; needing a force to attack the enemy's left flank, Magar conjured up the spirit of the Duke of Wellington, Napoleon's old adversary; the two spirits agreed to work together in a mutual onslaught against the Germans.

    Napoleon and Wellington's forces fought the Germans but were still pushed back. Needing more contemporary weapons than what they possessed, Magar conjured the spirit of Thomas Edison, who discovered a hidden dictaphone in the French camp was responsible for informing the Germans of all their plans. Edison sent an electronic signal through the dictaphone to deafen the men listening in on them, then created machines to assist the French against the Germans. With the battle won for the day, Magar sent the spirits of the dead back to their rest, promising he wouldn't call on them again unless the world once more fell into chaos.

    Magar received a handbook profile in Marvel Mystery Handbook: 70th Anniversary Special. The handbook didn't list his hair color but he clearly has black eyebrows.
