Powers/Abilities: Ziggy Karst carries a number of metal modules within her pockets. By using her mutant powers she can manipulate the modules, causing them to hover, form a blater gun or to merge together into a large humanoid "avatar." Through concentration, she can direct her avatar to attack others but her modules will revert to their original state if she loses concentration. Ziggy carried one module type called "Big-Bang" that caused large explosions while "Baby-Bang" created small, focused explosions. Ziggy is an excellent mechanic and research scientist.

History:

(Nightcrawler IV#5) - Ziggy Karst was a young mutant working at NARWAL (North American Robotic Weapon Advancement Laboratory) when she was targeted by Tullamore Vogue, who wanted to control her abilities through enslaving her and hired the Crimson Pirates to capture her.

(Nightcrawler IV#6) - Ziggy was attacked by the Crimson Pirates' Sea Dogs and used her modules to create an avatar to defend her but one of the Sea Dogs tackled her, breaking her concentration and returning the modules to normal. When the X-Men trainee student Rico (alias Scorpion Boy) intervened to help Ziggy, she was immediately impressed by his heroism, but the Crimson Pirates' leader Killian shot Ziggy with a dart that teleported her to Tullamore Vogue. Rico's mentor Nightcrawler came in pursuit of Ziggy, whom he found with other scientists from the NARWAL facility. Nightcrawler teleported all of them back to the NARWAL facility and Ziggy kissed Rico by way of thanks for his help, suggesting they should have an adventure together again some time.

(Nightcrawler IV#8) - Ziggy became a student at the Jean Grey School and with Rico and other students watched Nightcrawler and Colossus practice in the Danger Room. After Nightcrawler disappeared to investigate a summons from Bloody Bess of the Crimson Pirates, Ziggy went into Nightcrawler's Blackbird jet to improve its systems through tinkering with it, against Rico's advice. They watched as the X-Men took off in another jet, then were suddenly joined by Nightcrawler's Bamfs, who activated the Blackbird's engines and took off from the school.

(Nightcrawler IV#10) - Ziggy and Rico's Blackbird arrived to find Nightcrawler attacked by the Crimson Pirates and the X-Men (who were being controlled by the Shadow King). The Shadow King manifested itself aboard the Blackbird and took control of the Bamfs, making them attack Ziggy. Before the Shadow King could control her mind, Ziggy formed a blaster out of her modules and shot the Shadow King, knocking him back. While Nightcrawler defeated the Shadow King, the Crimson Pirates kidnapped Rico and Ziggy.

(Nightcrawler IV#11) - The Crimson Pirates brought Rico and Ziggy to an alternate reality somewhere in the Omniverse where Tullamore Voge ran a slave market. When Tullamore Voge questioned whether he truly wanted the two mutants, Killian used an enhancer field to demonstrate what Rico and Ziggy would be like as adult mutants; this placated Tullamore Vogue but Ziggy used her Big-Bang to stun one of the Sea Dogs then used Baby-Bang to remove the slave collar the Crimson Pirates had placed on her. After freeing Rico the two went on the run as Tullamore Voge sent Hounds and Warwolves after them. Ziggy formed guns from her modules to fight off the Hounds and they were finally rescued by Nightcrawler who had allied with the Crimson Pirates' former member Bloody Bess. However, Rico and Ziggy refused to leave when there were so many other people enslaved by Tullamore Voge. Nightcrawler agreed to help them stop Tullamore Voge.

(Nightcrawler IV#12) - Rico and Ziggy captured Tullamore Voge and forced him into a cage aboard the Blackbird. With Tullamore Voge captured and the Hounds and Warwolves beaten, Rico and Ziggy freed his slaves. Returning to the Jean Grey School, Rico and Ziggy joined other trainees and X-Men in a game of baseball.
