Powers/Abilities: Charged with ionic energy, Hazzard can levitate and redirect matter, even materials as heavy as a car.

    He can enter and exit computer circuitry and possibly other forms of machinery. He can swiftly search through various computer databases, presumably bypassing security measures, etc. He can also enter VR program/movies and even pull a human into such movies.

    Hazzard can transform objects at will, even into seemingly organic material such as fruit. He can also form and animate seemingly living beings, but these objects have the potential to rampage out of his control.

    He can alter his own form to mimic other beings, at least.

    He can alter his density from intangibility to a more solid nature able to contact other beings and materials.

    Hazzard has a sense of humor, and he enjoyed taunting his enemies.

(2099 Unlimited#5/3 (fb) - BTS) - Hap Hazzard was a virtual reality (VR) character used in movies in the latter aspect of the 21st Century, although the technology and mannerisms he used were most reminiscent of the latter part of the 20th Century.

(2099 Unlimited#5/3 (fb) - BTS) - Owen Sarkissian never liked Hap Hazzard.

(2099 Unlimited#5/3) - During the recording of a movie involving a car chase and apparently set in the 20th Century, Hap Hazzard interacted with his co-star, the actress Reba Rivers, before his form was disrupted by an energy pulse (apparently caused by an ionic energy containment module dropped nearby by unidentified parties).

    Hap subsequently spoke to the spectators, denouncing the establishment and encouraging the people to think for themselves. Feeling that Hap was malfunctioning and not wanting him to start trouble with the consumers that they were trying to control, Owen Sarkissian ordered his people to end Hap's program. 

(2099 Unlimited#5/3 - BTS) - After Hap's program faded, Sarkissian ordered an investigation of what happened and further instructed that none of the higher ups were to hear about it, or he would be ruined in this town, and that the VR footage from that day be destroyed.

    Back at the central controls, Otto and Manuel Fokus were baffled by what had happened, and when they subsequently received orders to delete the program, they resolved to secretly save it in their VR storage gizmo.


    However, the Fokus brothers were surprised when the program apparently saved itself, after which Hazzard emerged as a an independent being. Exploring his new nature and finding himself to be charged with ionic energy that allowed him to do almost anything he wanted. After he transformed some machinery into a pair of giant serpents, he initially found it difficult to reverse the effect as they menaced the Fokus brothers. However, by flying rings around them, he tied the serpents into knots as they pursued him, and with them contained he was able to banish their forms back into his mind. hazzard-928-2099ad-vrmovie

    Learning from the Fokus brothers that Sarkissian had ordered his termination, Hazzard subsequently confronted him at a party at his place as Owen attempted to tell Reba why her latest film had been terminated. Owen was shocked that Hazzard continued to exist, and he ordered his men to attack, but Hazzard hurled objects at them and then turned immaterial to avoid their attacks.

    Hazzard subsequently pulled Owen into a movie where he tormented him with underwater threats. Owen begged Hazzard to get him out safely and he would give him anything, but Hazzard advised him that he was beyond material needs before bringing him back to the real world.

    After Reba recognized him as Hap Hazzard, he corrected her that he now just Hazzard and then kissed her while taunting her as humorless. When Sarkissian's men fired on him again, Hazzard absorbed their bullets and then turned them into fruit, with which pelted Owen's guards. As his final torment, he dropped Sarkissian's prized car from the sky, destroying it.

    As Sarkissian vowed vengeance, Hazzard, having accessed Alchemax's datanet, informed Owen's boss at Stark-Fujikawa that he had been trying to cut a deal with Alchemax. Hazzard then returned to the Fokus brother's facility, revealed his actions and announced his plans to help those who had been wronged by corporations.

    Hazzard only appeared in this one story, and only the most popular characters from the 2099 series appeared again after the demise of that line of comics. And now all of the realities were merged into a single Earth-2099 reality, and it is unrevealed whether Hazzard or others still exist.

    Hap Hazzard's mustache makes me think he was intended to be reminiscent of Magnum, PI (played by Tom Selleck).

   This profile was completed 12/15/2025, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th anniversary 's celebratory event.
