History:

Hazzard: Merc Annual#1 (fb)) - Margaret consoled her young son, Mark,
after his father, Leonard, had derided him and struck him in the chest
with a baseball in response to disappointment with his performance.
(Mark Hazzard: Merc Annual#1 (fb)) - When her son, Mark went to West Point, he proved to be good at a lot of things, but he wasn't the best, and Margaret's husband, Leonard, couldn't accept any less.
(Mark Hazzard: Merc Annual#1 (fb) - BTS) - Unable to take his father's disappointment any further and deciding it was pointless trying to please him, Mark quit West Point, married Joan, and joined the army to serve in Vietnam as a noncomissioned officer.

Point, Margaret asked Leonard to talk to Mark and tell them what he was
doing to them. She listened as Leonard expressed his disgust and disappointment. 
When Mark explained that he was signing up for tour in Vietnam, Leonard was apalled that he would leave the Point to be a grunt. As Margaret walked out with Leonard, Mark replied, "Yes, sir."
