(
Spider-Man: Web Splashers Epic Hero Series toyline) - The Green Symbiote battled Spider-Man, who tried to gain an advantage over the flying, water-spewing alien by riding on his Hydro Jet.

Comments: Created by unidentified Hasbro employees under the direction of Steve Evans.

Is this a dumb profile? It sure is! But I'm fascinated by how this obvious Venom figure - some of the official promotional copy even calls it "Green Venom" - was de-Venomed and released as the mysterious "Green Symbiote" for no obvious reason. One could suggest that Venom isn't green and maybe Marvel didn't want a green Venom toy to be called "Venom," but all kinds of Marvel characters have been released in all kinds of random colors over the years, including Venom himself in green, and it's never been a problem before.

I'm also fascinated because, deprived of its Venom identity, this symbiote is pretty interesting! Not only does it have the big wings and tail (and squirt water), but it's translucent, which means we can clearly see that it doesn't have a host. (Obviously it doesn't have a host. Hasbro isn't going to pay to put a little separate action figure of some guy inside this budget action figure, but if we can't read way too much into this, what are we even doing here?) Once upon a time, toys had some kind of character information on them but nowadays, packaging is generally intended to be used across multiple markets and so any copy not directly related to the character's name, toyline or gimmick is usually a casualty (see the entire description on the package itself to the right). The only "story" that can be extracted from this figure is from a promotional photo of the Green Symbiote facing off against Spider-Man on his Hydro Jet vehicle. I've included Miles as an enemy too because he also appears in the Web Splashers toyline.

It is a recolor of an ordinary Venom figure so I have assigned it Venom's height and weight, though its weight could potentially be one Eddie Brock lighter.

Through what is almost certainly a coincidence, a nameless, watery green, semi-translucent symbiote ended up bonded to Patrick Mulligan in Venom: The Last Dance about a year later. Maybe they're multiversal variants of one another!

For what it's worth, it's difficult to determine whether this Green Symbiote is -616 or not. Certainly what little info we have on it doesn't contradict (that we know of) anything from Earth-616 continuity but the idea of Spider-Man using all this water-blasting tech seems a bit far-fetched. I guess maybe in the "Parker Industries" days, it could've been possible but even still, not all that likely. The Spider-Man figure that comes with the Hydro Jet vehicle in this toyline has a design that sort of resembles the Earth-1048 Spider-Man from the recent video games but I don't see this water-based combat "storyline" occurring in that reality either. Until we have more info, I think it best to just leave it vague without assigning it to a specific reality, unless someone has some more info that might tie it a known reality? --Proto-Man
