History:
(Moon Knight II#6 (fb) - BTS) - Lynora Good was a police officer for a time.
(Moon Knight II#6 (fb) - BTS) - Now a special agent for the US customs service working in unidentified island in the South Caribbean, Lynora Goode spent four years in "<that> cesspool banging <her> head against the wall trying to put people like Mother White out of business. Eventually, she succumbed to the local corruption and became a heroin addict supplied by Mother White.
(Moon
Knight II#6 (fb) - BTS) - "Years ago," federal marshals took Lynora's
young daughter away from her, declaring her unfit to raise the child.
(Moon Knight II#6 (fb) - BTS) - The Priests of Khonshu then advising the vigilante Moon Knight sent him to the island both to stop Mother White and perhaps save Lynora Goode.
(Moon Knight II#6) - Traveling to Mother White's Pancake House for her heroin dose, Lynora entered, and Moon Knight pushed her aside as he fled with a youth he had rescued (intended as a cannibalistic sacrament by Mother White and her "sons"). Lynora asked who Moon Knight was, but Mother White told her not to concern herself. When Lynora confirmed that she had sent her report with the "appropriate information," Mother White gave Lynora her dose of heroin and bade her farewell.
That evening, Lynora shot up with the heroin she'd received, enjoying a momentary bliss before hearing a noise, pulling her gun, and investigating, finding Moon Knight seated on her floor. Recognizing him, she lowered her weapon, and he discussed her career and her association with Mother White, surmising that she ignored Mother White's drug-dealing and kidnapping of ghetto kids in exchange for a steady drug supply. In response, Lynora told him, "If you're a cop, arrest me. If you're a hit man, shoot me. Ask me if I care." Moon Knight told her he would do what was necessary but that he wasn't judging, just doing his job.
After Lynora had showered, Moon Knight told her of his plan to shut down Mother White, and she apprised him of her history and advised him that if he took down Mother Night tonight, by tomorrow morning someone else will have picked up her end of things, with business as usual. She further warned him that if he set up base there, the island would, "swallow you...rape you..strip you of your morals, ideals, and hopes, until there was nothing left...but the skag (heroin)." When he questioned whether it was really any sort of escape for her, she asked him to stay with her, and when he said he didn't even know her, she leaned in for an embrace, noting she didn't know herself anymore. She asked him why he was there and how he had found out about her and Mother White; Moon Knight told her she wouldn't believe him and instead asked him about the kid in her picture, and she revealed that it was her daughter.
The next morning, when she went to the Pancake House for her heroin dose, Mother White told her that one of her agents had spotted Moon Knight scaling the terrace into her apartment and that he had spent the night there. Mother White instructed Lynora that she wanted Moon Knight, and the tearful but addicted Lynora agreed to help her set things up.
(Moon
Knight II#6 (fb) - BTS) - Having followed Lynora without her knowledge,
Moon Knight was aware of the set-up.
(Moon Knight II#6 / Moon Knight II#6 (fb)) - Wishing to learn the true nature of Mother White's evil and feeling secure due to his enhanced strength being at its peak during the full moon, Moon Knight met with Lynora as planned and informed her he knew what was going on. When he told her it was sad to see how much of her soul she had traded in, Lynora told him he had no right to judge her as he didn't know what she had been through; cutting her off, Moon Knight told her to walk away.
(Moon Knight II#6 - BTS) - Confronted by a trio of Mother White's "sons," Moon Knight pretended to be knocked out by a punch from behind, and he was brought down to and chained up in the Pancake House's sub-basement where he was intended to serve as a replacement sacrament.
(Moon Knight II#6) - Back in her apartment, Lynora -- either having taken her heroin dose or instead of doing so (there's a syringe that looks to have the plunger the whole may in, so presumably after taking the drug) -- Lynora wept and then raged at herself for having betrayed and presumably killed Moon Knight. Kicking in her TV screen and then shaking her shelf, she unwittingly knocked her daughter's picture to the ground, shattering its glass.
(Moon Knight II#6 (fb) - BTS) - Lynora traveled to the Pancake House, intending to rescue Moon Knight.
(Moon Knight II#6) - Lynora interrupted Mother White's discussion with Mother White, holding the latter at gunpoint and demanding Moon Knight's release; she instructed Mother White's "sons" to toss her a key. Moon Knight complimented her on her fortitude before revealing that he didn't need to be rescued. As he shattered his chains, however, Mother White used the distraction to grab Lynora's gun and use her as a hostage to demand Moon Knight's immediate departure.
Instead, Moon Knight hurled crescent darts that knocked over the braziers, plunging the chamber into darkness. Moon Knight swiftly dropped Mother White's sons, including Tilfred who had rushed to the main level seeking reinforcements.
(Moon Knight II#6 (fb) - BTS) - Meanwhile, Mother White grabbed her big gun and began to ascend the stairs, while Moon Knight apparently cut a hole in the floor of the pancake house.
(Moon
Knight II#6) - Finding Moon Knight on the main floor, she fired on
and charged him, and he shoved her into the
hole.
(Moon Knight II#6 - BTS) - Hitting the ground below, Mother White quickly recovered and fired her machine gun back up through the hole. Lynora advised Moon Knight that there were gas mains down in the lower level feeding the restaurant's oven, and that if she kept firing away...
As Moon Knight and Lynora fled, the entire Pancake House was destroyed in an explosion, apparently killing those within it and its lower levels.
(Moon Knight II#6) - After Marc Spector had gone to the airport, Lynora returned to her apartment. Feeling she had regained her soul, she resolved to leave the island, admit her crimes, and confess her addiction to the very drug she had come to battle against. As she considered that maybe she could get her daughter back when this was over, Mother's White's "son" Tilfred, having escaped the Pancake House, kicked in her door and swiftly shot her repeatedly with his automatic weapon, apparently killing her.
Having heard of the survivor and arriving too late, Moon Knight's presence nonetheless caused Tilfred to run away in a panic, apparently tripping over Lynora, smashing through a window, and falling to his death. Moon Knight stood silently over Lynora's body.
Comments: Created by Jim Owsley (now Christopher Priest), Mark Beckham, and Geof Isherwood.
I had assumed Mother White's activity to be based on Haiti, but in re-reading the comic, I don't see the island identified by name. Perhaps it is a smaller island. It's also described thusly, "...hunger, pain, and the killing poverty that infests the vacation paradise and scars the island's beauty..."
Tilfred shooting at Lynora is shown in the sub-profile for Mother White's "sons."
As 40 years real time, and perhaps 8 years Marvel Time have progressed since this story, Lynora's daughter could possibly be 18 years old now...maybe she's some cool vigilante now...
This profile was completed 10/15/2021, but its publication was delayed as it was intended for the Appendix 25th anniversary 's celebratory event.
