History:
(Sun Girl#2/1 (fb) - BTS) - Prof. George Fredericks
had a personal laboratory focused on electronics engineering and had
developed an Electronic Dimension Dislocator, but he unwittingly
connected to the "Fourth Dimension" where the dangerous creatures he
dubbed the Sparks lived. Fredericks was aided by his assistant Michael
Stern. Activating the device triggered vibrations and sparking at the
Dislocator column, which permitted murderous Sparks to enter his lab.
Stern was strangled to death before Fredericks discovered he could
drive them back using bright torch light.
(Sun Girl#2/1 (fb)) - Fredericks was arrested in his
lab standing next to Stern's corpse. Fredericks maintained his account
of what had happened but no one believed him. The State Psychiatrists
Board
declared Fredericks criminally insane.
(Sun Girl#2/1 (fb) - BTS) - Fredericks was placed in
a secure mental health institution but later escaped.
(Sun Girl#2/1) - The police broadcast that Fredericks had escaped and the vigilante Sun Girl suspected he would return to his lab. Fredericks ran back to his lab and was about to destroy the equipment to prevent the possibility of Sparks returning, but was stopped by Sun Girl. Fredericks explained himself again and activated the giant electrical equipment to prove to Sun Girl that the Sparks would appear. Sun Girl was stunned to see several creatures emerge and a Spark went immediately to strangle Sun Girl. Fredericks told her of the Sparks' vulnerability to light and she activated her wrist light, which repelled them. Desperate to destroy the murderous creatures and their access to Earth, he pushed the Sparks to the Dimension Dislocator and used his body to short-circuit the device. He warned Sun Girl of an explosion and she escaped, but the lab was obliterated along with Fredericks and the Sparks. Thinking the police would not believe her either, Sun Girl refrained from revealing all the details and later lamented that no one else would know of Fredericks' sacrifice.

Vibrations to trigger a portal that can cross dimensions? Further work and he might have been able reach alternate Earths.

CLARIFICATIONS
:
George Fredericks has no known connections to:

The Sparks were translucent humanoid beings from
the Fourth Dimension and were silent nut aggressive (probably by
nature). Using his
self-invented Electronic Dimension Dislocator in his lab, Prof. George
Fredericks unwittingly opened a portal that allowed the Sparks to
enter, They immediately went for the closest human to strangle; in
the first instance, one killed Fredericks' assistant Michael Stern
before they were repelled. The next time they crossed over, a Spark
attacked crime fighter Sun Girl, but she repulsed it by capitalizing on
the Sparks' vulnerability to light. Desperate to destroy the Sparks and
their access to Earth, Fredericks used his body to short-circuit the
Dimension Dislocator and the lab was obliterated, destroying all within.
--Sun Girl#2/1
Michael Stern was Prof. George Fredericks' assistant
and was there the first time the dire Sparks emerged from the Fourth
Dimension. The Sparks choked Stern to death before Fredericks could
banish the creatures. The police found Fredericks and he denied Stern's
murder. No one believed Fredericks' account and he was incarcerated for
Stern's murder.
