(
Spyke#3 (fb) - BTS) - Pandrakon was one a beautiful world with divisions between the land and sea, with abundant fish and fruit from trees. The Krosts, one of the royal families on the world of Squall, discovered Pandrakon and started developing gates, snatching native children for conversion. The Impariels learned of Pandrakon and broke the Krost boycott and set up their own beachhead. duke_of_krost-39719-stabbed

A full war broke out with the two sides using powerful world-destroying machines, and one of the sides used a weapon to destroy the sun.

Eventually, the planet was left a world without fresh air, and beings could only survive by capturing a snark (a giant shark-like creature), lobotomizing and taking control of it, and using bionic implants to give it a number of living spaces.

The Duke of Krost occasionally encountered Nomi U'det, who also lived there within her own snark, and he established a standing offer where he traded her food in return for sex.

At some point, the Duke either traveled to Earth or encountered someone (or multiple beings) from Earth. He acquired a Grateful Dead t-shirt and a Chicago Cubs hat. He also wore cut off shorts and high-top sneakers that looked very terrestrial.

He acquired some life energies, referred to as a lifebulb, presumably by sacrificing others

(Spyke#3 - BTS) - Spyke Jones, having been from Earth to the alien worlds of Squall and then to Pandrakon via killing beings who housed dimensional portals/gates, encountered Nomi U'det aboard her snark (a giant shark creature conscripted to her service) and convinced her to help find a portal to another realm as part of his goal of returning to Earth. She told him of the Duke of Krost but warned that his gate probably led to Vera or Smackwater.

(Spyke#3) - Nomi located the Duke's snark. Knowing that he might attack if he knew someone was with her, she had Spyke stay hidden. From his snark, the Duke greeted Nomi, telling her that he had found a batch of camids and asked how she had been, and she told him that she had not had much luck and that she may join him for dinner if the offer was still open. Considering this divine, he invited her over, noting that he might even have something for her snark...and maybe even some wine.

Nomi told him she was coming over, but Spyke instead swam into the Duke's snark. As the Duke prepared to greet her, Spyke caught him offguard, kicking him in the chest and causing him to drop his knife and then stabbing him in the chest. The Duke's death opened a gate to Vera to which Spyke was transported. Regretting having damaged the shirt, Spyke took the Duke's hat before vanishing.

Manifesting an image of himself on Vera via his lifebulb, the Duke informed Spyke that the seeming paradise he was seeing initially was just a trick. He further advised Spyke that he should use the energy Spyke had stolen from him and the others he had killed. Telling Spyke that the hat looked good on him, the Duke waved goodbye and vanished, after which Spyke found himself alone in a frozen wasteland. duke_of_krost-39719-face-astral

Comments: Created by Mike Baron and Bill Reinhold as part of the creator-owned Epic Imprint.

Duke Krost did not seem to resent Spyke for having killed him.

Spyke had made a big deal about not wanting to kill innocent people, but he had no qualms about killing Duke Krost, whom he barely knew. Trading food for sex doesn't seem like much of a crime in a hostile environment. I guess he may have taken part in destroying Pandrakon's environment, and he presumably slew people to gain their life energies and to be transported to other worlds.

Earth-39719 Beings from Squall and other realms sought to conquer Earth, accessing various dimensions by slaying a being containing a gate, opposed by Spyke Jones and his allies. Spyke #1 (!993)
