History:
(Lance Barnes: Post Nuke Dick#1 (fb) - BTS) - Nuclear war ravaged the Earth after private investigator Lance Barnes failed to deactivate the timing mechanism on a nuclear missile launched by his enemy. Barnes kept his involvement to himself, only telling his assistant, Peg.

As money no longer had the same value, Barnes worked for a case of canned peaches, half in advance.

(Lance Barnes: Post Nuke Dick#1 (fb) - BTS) - In the resultant war-ravaged society, an unidentified man at least claimed to have been inspired to adopt the identity of the Dog Knight after a dead dog crashed through his window, which he considered an omen.

(Lance Barnes: Post Nuke Dick#1 (fb) - BTS) - The Dog Knight claimed to be on a crusade for justice. However, he spent most of his time protecting property whose owners were dead.

(Lance Barnes: Post Nuke Dick#1 (fb) - BTS) -<A few years before the main story> - The Dog Knight drove a cannibal named Tiny out of town.

(Lance Barnes: Post Nuke Dick#1 (fb) - BTS) - The Dog Knight had a partner/adopted son known as Puppy. During a barrage of gunfire, the Dog Knight used Puppy as a shield. The Dog Knight considered that Puppy had thusly honored him with his sacrifice, and he continued his crusade.

(Lance Barnes: Post Nuke Dick#1 (fb) - BTS) - The Dog Knight attempted to recruit the young Mason Thrump to become the new Puppy. Thrump did not know why Dog Knight was calling him puppy, and when they were alone, the Dog Knight told him to take off all of his clothes (allegedly so he could put on his costume).

(Lance Barnes: Post Nuke Dick#1 (fb) - BTS) <A few weeks before the main story> - According to the old McKutty widow, some Quad-Mutants smelled a pie she had made can came crawling around back of her house. She cried when she saw how pitiful they were.

The Dog Knight then rushed into Mrs. McKutty's house, beat the Quad-Mutants to a pulp, started howling and then urinated on her rug.

(Lance Barnes: Post Nuke Dick#1 (fb) - BTS) - A mob captured the Dog Knight, and the local lord was happy to throw him to the mercies of the plebeian courts.dog_knight-934580-face-profile

(Lance Barnes: Post Nuke Dick#1 (fb) - BTS) - The Dog Knight's lawyer hired Lance Barnes to gather evidence for Dog Knight's defense. The Dog Knight gave Barnes a list of citizens he had helped, and Barnes was to track down a few of these people to act as character witnesses.

(Lance Barnes: Post Nuke Dick#1) - During his trial, the Dog Knight answered a question on his origins by noting that he had been inspired by the omen of a dead dog crashing through his window. As there were laws in that sector against independent mysticism, the Grand Inquisitor deducted two points from his total of ten (with the significance being that if his number dropped to zero, he would be executed).dog_knight-934580-burning

(Lance Barnes: Post Nuke Dick#1 (fb) - BTS) - Barnes had Peg detail the addresses to go with the names of the potential character witnesses.

(Lance Barnes: Post Nuke Dick#1 - BTS) - Barnes went to see Mrs. McKutty and swiftly learned that she would not be a good witness.

Barnes was subsequently confronted by Inquisitor Trask and his enforcer, Mather, and the former gave him a "friendly warning" that the Lord Eradicator wanted the Dog Knight nailed. At Barnes' query, Trask told him he just assumed the Lord Eradicator did not like strays, and Barnes insultingly asked why the Lord Eradicator had married one (a stray). Nonetheless, Barnes told them that the message was received.

(Lance Barnes: Post Nuke Dick#1 (fb) - BTS) - Barnes interviewed the rest of the people on Dog Knight's list and had similar results as to what Mrs. McKutty had told him.

(Lance Barnes: Post Nuke Dick#1) - Mason Thrump testified in court, stating how the Dog Knight had kept calling him "puppy" and then told him to take off all of his clothes. The Dog Knight tried to explain that he had just done that so Mason could put on his costume and become the new Puppy.

(Lance Barnes: Post Nuke Dick#1 - BTS) - Barnes asked his man on the street, a mutate named Toady, if the Dog Knight had ever done any good. Toady told him that a few years ago, the Dog Knight had driven a cannibal named Tiny out of town. Toady further noted that Tiny lived at the Dandy Candy Playland.

Barnes sought out Tiny and tried to take him down, but he was instead forced to flee from the large and powerful Tiny.

(Lance Barnes: Post Nuke Dick#1 (fb) - BTS) - While Barnes sought out Trask and Mather to get the Grand Inquisitor to help him capture Tiny, Tiny captured Peg and used her as a hostage to get Barnes to come back to him. Terrified of the cannibal, Peg told him of Barnes' responsibility for the nuclear war.

(Lance Barnes: Post Nuke Dick#1 - BTS) - Not wanting that knowledge to become public, Barnes fatally shot Tiny to keep him quiet, knowing that he was the Dog Knight's only chance of acquittal.
Peg was badly banged up in the process.

(Lance Barnes: Post Nuke Dick#1) - After Barnes told the Dog Knight that he had killed Tiny, the Dog Knight howled in lament, told Barnes that if he ever got out that he would hunt him down; he further refused to pay Barnes the other half of the case of peaches.

The Grand Inquisitor subsequently sentenced the Dog Knight to be burned at the stake until dead.

As the flame was lit, the Dog Knight called out to Puppy, telling him that he was coming, and then he screamed as the flames engulfed him, while the crowd apparently cheered.
