Valis and his "Ghost-Makers" were sent to Planet X to assume command of
security forces.
(Six of Sirus 2#1) - Some of Demandros' crew reported that
they had captured five of the Renegades wanted for treason by the Hub,
Grod, LaMasque, Jakosa Lone, Skreed & Starn, noting that they had
destroyed an incoming team of archeologists before surrendering (they
archeologist ship had actually attacked them first, and they had
returned fire in defense). After some consideration, Demandros
instructed that the prisoners be sent to a suitably dusty cell. When
Lone revealed his presence and asked if this was any way to greet an old
friend, Demandros advised him that he could not make things any worse
and so he should not even try to do so. Admitting that Lone had been a
good officer and maybe a better man, Demandros told him that he would
regret claiming his bounty, but Lone advised him that he should let his
men, who had actually caught them, take the pay.
When Demandros asked if the Hub was all that bad, Lone related how a Hub mission to save innocent lives was really about money, as the world was rich in cidrion crystals. Demandros told Lone to grow up, asking what he thought things were all about, and Lone replied that perhaps it was about living without regret.
As Lone and his group were imprisoned, Demandros received a report via his wrist-communication device of of Valis and his team's approach, and he ordered that they be allowed through the defense web without challenge. Lone mocked Valis' superceding his command, and although Demandros was frustrated, he departed without discussing the matter.
However, Valis had resolved to locate
the gateways himself and charge the Hub a much larger amount, and as
part of this plan, he assaulted Demandros' forces. Demandros ordered his
forces to man the ground defenses and lock every cannon an that ship,
after which Valis sent his people out in personal aircraft pods to
finish off their targets.
(Six
of
Sirus 2#2) - Damning the Hub collaborators as stupid fools, Demandros
considered that he should have known that Valis would try something like
this. As the pods launched from the attacking ship, he changed his order
for them too fire on anything in the sky, but Valis' forces swiftly
disabled their cannons and then unleashed K-9 backup drones (floating
Sputnik lookalikes), which slaughtered Demandros' soldiers and
archeologists alike. The sole survivor, Demandros agreed to release Lone
and his allies so they didn't die trapped in their cell, but he refused
to guide them to any weaponry as he suspected they could be part of this
treacherous action. Lone denied this, reminding Demandros of the enmity
between himself and Valis, but Demandros told him to just go, seconds
before being struck down by a blast in the back from one of the K-9s.
Lone and his men scattered and fled.
Lying on the ground, Demandros could
only curse Valis as he and his Ghost-Makers landed. Stepping atop
Demandros' neck, Valis noted that they would use his quarters as their
command base, after which he instructed Boltar to bring Demandros in for
interrogation.
Cuffed to a post, Demandros told Valis
he did not know where the gateway was located, as they had still been
excavating. Valis eventually accepted this as the truth, after which he
had Xekros render him unconscious. Valis then communicated with Hob
official Korassa, telling him that Demandros had lied and that his
forces had located seven gateways so far and demanding 50 million
credits for one of the gateways. Korassa countered that Demandros had
been the most loyal officer, but Valis told him that Demandros went for
the profit after the Hub had placed him (Valis) in a higher command.
Valis thusly bluffed Korassa into ordering off Planet X's defense squad
to avoid risking damage to the gateways.
(Six of Sirus 2#2 - BTS) - Lone reunited with LaMasque and
Grod, and they resolved to rescue Demandros as he had saved their lives.
(Six
of Sirus 2#2) - They subsequently took hostage
Valis' second-in-command, Perdisa Strel, and used her to force the
release of Demandros to them. LaMasque helped the injured Demandros walk
away.
(Six of Sirus 2#2 - BTS) - Disagreeing with Valis' actions, his lover, Chelandria, shut down the K-9 units.
(Six of Sirus 2#3) - After Demandros and Lone exchanged
gratitude for saving each other, Demandros noted that he was as good as
he would ever be after what Xekros had done to him, and, not having
located the rest of their teammates, they headed back to a gateway Lone
had discovered and through within which he placed a hollow tooth
containing the psyche of their other remaining teammate Zematin-Lar.
However, after finding the tooth missing (and unaware that Zemmie had
somehow taken on a new form on the other side of the gateway), they were
attacked by Boltar, Valis and Xekros.
Taking a rifle, Demandros instructed
Lone and his allies to head through the gateway while he held off Valis
and his men. After they had all passed through the Gateway, Xekros
blasted Demandros' rifle and then attacked Demandros. Admitting that he
knew he was about to die, Demandros told Xekros that he wouldn't be in
this world to see it, and he spun suddenly, casting Xekros through the
gateway.
Instructing Valis that he would not
suffer at his hands again and was beyond his reach, Demandros shattered
Xekros weapon, and he was incinerated by the subsequent energy release
(or by a blast from Valis or Boltar; the image looked more like he was
struck by an energy blast then caught in an explosion, but maybe the
blast had a focal energy release.

Demandros and many
of the characters from this series were grossly human, but I don't think
that anyone is from Earth. It's been like 40 years since I read both
series, and I focused on Demandros when reviewing issues for this
profile.
