History:
(Generation X I#19 (fb) - BTS) - Bumpkin and another pink-skinned
associate had been employees of Emma Frost since her days with the
Hellfire Club, prior to Frost losing her Hellions students.
(Generation X I#17) - While driving Emma Frost and her student M,
Bumpkin's limo was shaken when M flipped Frost into one of the seats.
Bumpkin asked Frost if they were okay in the back seat and Frost
replied in the affirmative, calling Bumpkin "Mister B." M and Frost
then discussed M's secrets telepathically, resulting in Frost being
shoved against the side of the limo and prompting Bumpkin to again ask
if they were okay. Frost again told "Mister B" that she was fine.
(Generation X I#18) - After Emma Frost detoured
Generation X's flight from Boston to somewhere outside the United
States, she insisted the students trust her through the change of plans
and when the plane landed, Bumpkin was waiting by a limo for her and
the students. After taking down the suspicious students trying to stop
her plan, Frost ordered Bumpkin and another associate to see the
students gently to her car. Once they had arrived at their destination
in north Ontario, Bumpkin helped bring the luggage inside the estate.
(Generation X I#19) - Bumpkin walked up to Emma Frost's other associate as he was waxing the limo and remarked on his suspicion that something was not right with Frost's mental state. He then offered the other associate a latte and when the associate remained silent, Bumpkin commented "You're welcome." and continued to voice his concerns about Emma Frost, admitting that he didn't wish to speak ill of her. When he asked the other associate if he was even concerned that Frost was acting odd and the associate again remained silent, Bumpkin commented that he was concerned. Recalling how he had served Frost since before she had lost her previous Hellions students, Bumpkin remarked that Frost seemed to be getting carried away with the protection of her current Generation X students. Unaware that Frost was actually affected by the psionic entity Onslaught and instinctively trying to protect Generation X, Bumpkin later ventured inside the estate, Bumpkin found Frost in the kitchen, head down in a cookbook. Asking if Frost was asleep, Bumpkin and his associate were both startled when Frost suddenly awoke. Bumpkin then nervously tried to inform Frost that something bad was happening and that Frost didn't seem to care that a tree had landed on one side of the estate. An angry Frost ordered Bumpkin and his associate not to think but to leave immediately. Somewhat scared at Frost's actions, Bumpkin and his associate zoomed out of the kitchen.
(Generation X I#25) - Bumpkin was driving Emma Frost in her limo as
she was on the phone with gang leader Miguela Torres. As the car pulled
up to a plant-covered Massachusetts Academy, Bumpkin suggested
Frost looked in front of the car. Frost joked with Bumpkin that Jubilee
must have toilet papered the driveway, only to be shocked to see vines
covering the entire Academy. Parking the car, Bumpkin exited the limo
and attempted to avoid the encroaching vines as Frost investigated.
Bumpkin was soon swallowed up by the vines and called for Frost before
disappearing into the vines, unaware that Black Tom Cassidy was
responsible for the vines.
(Generation X I#27 (fb) - BTS) - After taking forever to
crawl out of the place Black Tom Cassidy had buried him, Bumpkin worked
on getting the moss out of his teeth.
(Generation X I#27) - Bumpkin was hanging around with his associate near Emma Frost's limo telling the associate about his ordeal escaping Black Tom Cassidy's vines when the associate motioned that there was something in Bumpkin's teeth. Asking if it was moss, Bumpkin was annoyed that he had missed a spot and remarked that he would picking moss out of his teeth for a week.
(Generation X I#28/2) - Bumpkin piloted Frost's plane when Emma
Frost and Banshee flew towards the living island Krakoa's former
location. When they arrived at the coordinates, Bumpkin informed Frost
that they was a lifted ship in Krakoa's old location with no signs of
life. When an alert came into the plane's communication channels with a
voice that sounded like the X-Men's Cyclops, Frost asked if Bumpkin
could get a fix on the signal and Bumpkin replied in the affirmative.
Tracing the signal elsewhere, Frost and Banshee decided to help the
seemingly endangered X-Men, figuring nothing more could be done with
the dead ship, and Bumpkin flew the plane away from the ship.

The green-skinned Bumpkin was
miscolored with pink skin in Generation X I#18. Additionally, his
pink-skinned associate's skin was miscolored green in the second story
of Generation X I#28.
While Bumpkin's actual origins were never revealed, it seems likely that he was a mutant, given that he worked for a mutant and his appearance. Speaking of appearance, it's interesting that Bumpkin has green skin and his associate had pink skin and two of the Massachusetts Academy's students had similarly colored skin. Leech had green skin and Artie Maddicks had pink. Also, the pink-skinned never speaks (much like Artie!). Any possible connection remains purely speculation, however...
Bumpkin never referred to any family but his pink-skinned associate looked almost identical to Bumpkin aside from the skin color. It's possible they may be brothers but again, no familial connection was mentioned or even referred to.
Bumpkin looked a little different in his first appearance (see above third image). He actually (to me, anyway) sort of looked like Stan Lee but we only see him from behind and through a limousine window so it's hard to tell. On that note, he almost appears to have dark hair in the back but that could easily be considered a glare on the window we are seeing him through. In all of his other appearances, Bumpkin does not appear to have hair or if he does, it's tucked under a hat so we can't see it. Similarly, his eyes are always obscured by something as well, making it impossible to determine what color they are. In each appearance, his eyes are either obscured by sunglasses, the visor of his hat or a pair of goggles.
