History:
(A-Next I#9) - Kendra Freeman served on a Neighborhood
Pride Street Festival committee alongside Maria Sapristi, Holly Halpern
and Jameesia Grant. When Maria introduced them to Kevin Masterson the
other two began flirting with Kevin but Kendra apologized for their
behavior. When the forces of the Soldiers of the Serpent attacked the
festival, Kendra assumed the identity of Blacklight to battle them.
Although Blacklight was able to easily deflect the Soldiers' attacks
with her black light constructs they assaulted a building which
Thunderstrike (actually Maria's friend Kevin) helped save. Thunderstrike
offered to help Blacklight and, inspired by his powers, she created a
massive black light construct of Thor's hammer Mjolnir to smash the
Soldiers' tank. When the Soldiers of the Serpent were defeated
Thunderstrike asked Blacklight if she had thought of joining the
Avengers; she answered "more than you know," but wanted to remain a solo
hero for the time. She promised to contact Thunderstrike if she changed
her mind. 
(A-Next I#12) - After the Avengers were captured in their own base by the Revengers, Mainframe summoned Blacklight and other Avengers allies including Argo, Coal Tiger and Earth Sentry to rescue his comrades. Blacklight helped Bluestreak and Mainframe defeat Ion Man as Bluestreak used her superhuman speed to reflect Ion Man's energy back at him, cracking his containment device; Blacklight encased Ion Man within a black light sphere to prevent him from exploding. After the battle Tony Stark admitted to the Avengers and their friends that they had all acted in the best tradition of the Avengers and proved themselves worthy of the name.
(Spider-Girl I#58-59) - As the Avengers prepared for a battle against the Egyptian deity Seth, Blacklight was one of many heroes who gathered at Avengers Mansion to prepare for the fight. Seth placed an entropy field around Avengers Mansion to contain the assembled heroes; Blacklight proved unable to pierce the field but outside the field, Spider-Girl battled Seth to a point where he dropped the field, enabling the assembled heroes to escape Avengers Mansion and defeat Seth.
(Spider-Girl I#92) - Now a reserve member of the Avengers, Blacklight was asked to help fill out the ranks of the Avengers after several members exited or were injured. Although unable to fight due to an injury, Stinger helped assign the new members and brought in the team's ally Spider-Girl for her aid. Spider-Girl was finally given a formal introduction to Blacklight just before Mainframe gave them their assignment: to determine whether the mutant Magneto was still alive. Spider-Girl eventually proved the Magneto sightings were made by a man wearing Magneto's costume and simulating his powers.
(Amazing Spider-Girl I#15) - After Spider-Girl was captured by her enemies the Hobgoblin and Mindworm, Blacklight joined a large force of heroes including Avengers, the Fantastic Five and X-People in rescuing her.

Her surname suggests her father might be the Earth-982 version of Derek Freeman, particularly as her costume insignia resembles that of Captain Marvel (Monica Rambeau), a love interest to Freeman.
