History:
(X-Men: Outback I#4 (fb) - BTS) - Mutants who could not pass as human and were unsafe among humanity established a refuge in the Australian Outback. They named their home Never Never and relied on Mirror Seer's mirage to conceal the entire settlement from surface observers. The residents chose Bushranger to protect and lead them.
(X-Men: Outback I#4 (fb) ) - The Australian Morlocks were
targeted by the Lava Men after their leader King Bassalo was led to
believe that harvesting and refining mutant genes would strengthen them
considerably. The Lava Men managed to bypass the mirages protecting
Never Never by tunneling into the refuge from beneath the surface. They
abducted the community and brought the captives to King Basallo's
underground kingdom.
(X-Men: Outback I#4 (fb) - BTS) - Bushranger was the only member of the
Morlocks who managed to escape, though she was killed in the process.
However, her mutant powers quickly resurrected her and she continued to
make her way to the surface in a desperate attempt to get help.
(X-Men: Outback I#4) - After walking across the Australian dessert for
most of the night, Bushranger located the X-Men in their secret base
near Cooterman's Creek and convinced them to help. The X-Men and
Madelyne Pryor accompanied her back to Never Never where the team
marveled at how gorgeous and maintained the settlement appeared.
(X-Men: Outback I#4 - BTS) - They accessed the Lava Men's domain by
following the tunnel that they had dug to get to the surface. Soon, the
X-Men and Bushranger fought Basallo and his guards. Storm discovered
that the molten ore in the Lava Men's bodies was highly conductive and
threatened to strike all of them with unprecedented electrical force.
Unwilling to sacrifice his people, Basallo ordered his forces to stand
down and release the mutants.
(X-Men: Outback I#4) - The rescued community returned to Never Never.
Bushranger reunited with Mirror Seer and Buckland and thanked the X-Men
profusely. The Australian Morlocks promised to keep the X-Men's
continued survival secret.

Although X-Men: Outback I#4 was published in 2026, its story is set during the X-Men's Australian Outback era, before Inferno.
The term "Australian Morlocks" only appeared in the promotional copy, but it's as good a name as any for a community of Australian mutants whose appearance makes it hard for them to make it in human society. No relationship between this community and the established Morlock groups in New York City or London has been revealed. X-Men: Outback I#4 only identified Bushranger, Buckland and Mirror Seer by name, though at least half a dozen others were seen. Since this tale took place in the past, it's hard to tell if the Australian Morlocks are still around or that they fell prey to the multiple mass extinction events like M-Day. If they were around, it's a shame Ugly John never hooked up with him, he'd have fit right in.
