Powers/Abilities: Although largely defined, Ardina was imbued with the cosmic energies of Galactus and had power levels comparable to those of the Silver Surfer.     She could fly at vast speeds through space as well as within an atmosphere, perhaps converting into energy to achieve such speeds, although she could grab and fly with objects and/or beings when flying thusly.     By touching another being's face, she could share with them visions of her choosing, which sometimes seemed to be transporting those seeing the visions (even the Silver Surfer) to another realm.     She could also cause delusions and/or anxiety, such as when she caused the Silver Surfer to be overcome by claustrophobia within a human household. Height: Unrevealed (approximately 5'9" (which is Shalla Bal's height) Weight: Unrevealed (difficult to estimate given her unrevealed composition; Shalla Bal is listed as 125 lbs., which is pretty light for a 5'9" woman regardless, but Ardina may or may not have a golden coating over her body to give her additional weight); she could likely increase or decrease her mass at will Eyes: Solid white Hair: Blonde Skin: Orange

History:
("The Silver Surfer" (fb) - BTS) - In Reality-7888, after banishing the Silver Surfer to Earth for his defiance and resistance to his consuming Earth's bio-spheric energies, Galactus sought to force the Surfer to return to serving as his herald.

    To this end, he summoned his Master of Guile (who seemed to be a manifestation or perhaps based on Galactus' darkest impulses), who advised him to use a female to bait/trick the Surfer, "for only his heart could betray him." Galactus ultimately resolved to utilize this plan.

    Using his technology to clone Shalla Bal, the Surfer's lover (as Norrin Radd, prior to his empowerment) from his native world of Zenn-La, Galactus genetically engineered this clone to achieve power akin to the Silver Surfer.

    Naming her Ardina, Galactus sent her to Earth to seduce the Surfer and convince him to return to his service as by doing so the Surfer could travel through space with Ardina at his side.

("The Silver Surfer") - As Ardina awaited the Surfer atop a rooftop, the Surfer sensed a kindred presence, strange and irresistibly compelling. Ardina subsequently confronted him and introduced herself, and the Surfer considered her to be beauty beyond measure. She told him that she was space-born, like himself, but the Surfer immediately appreciated that she had been created by Galactus.

    Nonetheless, claiming to be a creature of emotions, Ardina reached forward and touched the Surfer's head, telling him to let her enter his mind and heart, and to taste the pleasures she could bring. She showed him that they could explore the cosmos together, and they seemed to achieve a physical union in the "place that was not a place."

    However, when she reminded him that he could achieve this freedom by returning to Galactus' service, the Surfer realized that she had been sent there by him for that purpose.

    The Surfer's angry outburst dispelled the illusion/spell she had projected, and he denied her, proclaiming that he would stand with Earth. Ardina then showed him images of humanity's cruelty, but the Surfer argued that mankind had courage, spirit and potential. She then flew to accompany him as he showed her what humanity could become.

("The Silver Surfer" - BTS) - Meanwhile, Galactus landed his ship on the dark side of the moon and assembled his elemental converter, which maximized his absorption of biospheric energy.

("The Silver Surfer") - After flying through a Midwestern suburb in the USA, the Surfer and Ardina landed in the backyard of Sam and Beth Kemperer, where the Surfer befriended their dog, Simba. After the Surfer accepted their invitation into their home, hoping to show Ardina their kindness, she caused him to feel overwhelmed by claustrophobia and flee outside. She then touched Sam and Beth's heads, sharing with them the majesty of space, which virtually overwhelmed them.

    Appreciating that Ardina had caused his panic, the Surfer departed, and Ardina joined him, futilely trying to convince him that he could never achieve a rapport with humans. She further advised him that if he opposed Galactus, he would die.

    Momentarily forgetting Galactus' barrier, the Surfer attempted to fly to confront his former master, but he crashed into the barrier, was incapacitated and fell back to Earth.

    Meanwhile, Galactus summoned Ardina back to his ship and asked how she had fared with his former herald, and she told him that while she was not sure that she had won his love, her heart was surely his. Using his technology to analyze Ardina, Galactus considered that his plot was failing because of his inability to manipulate love. Nonetheless, Galactus sent Ardina back to Earth for a final attempt.

    After the Surfer had been incapacitated by the weapon of a CIA group seeking to force him into serving them, Ardina appeared in a burst of light and transported him away to a secluded fjord in Norway. As he recovered, she informed him of Galactus' final offer: Serve Galactus again, and she would be his forever.

    When the Surfer refused to serve Galactus at the cost of the lives of other races and beings, Ardina resolved to fight by the Surfer's side. Appreciating that they would both likely die in the effort, she was content that they would die together, and that they could at least share this moment together. She did question why sacrifice everything for humanity, but the Surfer assured her that they would come of age, and that they could help guide mankind to that point.

    Galactus' matrix, the machine of life, with which he had created Ardina, then descended upon them. Although the Surfer led Ardina atop his board and flew away with her, she was pulled back to the machine. As she returned to nothingness, she vowed to love the Surfer after death.

("The Silver Surfer" - BTS) - After Galactus had returned the matrix to his ship, he communicated with the Surfer, who told him that he would remain on Earth and perish with humanity. However, when Galactus told him that he would spare Earth only if the Surfer returned to his service, the Surfer reluctantly agreed.

Stan Lee told the undersigned that this book was based on a treatment he had written (or conceived of) in an attempt to sell a Silver Surfer movie to Hollywood, to which Jack Kirby would have been attached to provide designs. Consequently, the story took place on an ordinary Earth, with no Fantastic Four, no Watcher, no super-heroes, no magic, no colorful past history, and likely none of the other elements or characters that comprise the Marvel Universe as we know it.

    Ardina previously had a sub-profile under Earth-M (Earth-7888; the profile was actually separated out into two pages, one for history of the reality, and one for characters, which is where Ardina had her sub-profile) profile, originally published 05/02/2004.

    The story ends somewhat abruptly. Both times when I read it, I turned the pages waiting for the ending...but it had already ended.

    Being somewhat poetic, I would imagine Stan chose the name Ardina based on the word "ardent," which often means "passionate" in archaic literary references.
