History
:
(
Logan's Run#7) - After Logan 5 had destroyed the computers that had previously controlled their lives, other Sandmen attempted to take back control of the city, at which point they were assaulted by a number of Cubs, youths resisting the Sandmen and government control. The Cub's projected Muscle - a drug that sped up the abilities of youths but -- at too strong a dose -- threatened to shake apart the bodies of those above a certain age.

Angel warned Cub-leader Billy not to let the Sandmen lead him away from the Muscle pods, but Billy told her that he did what he liked, such as cutting Sandmen. Angel advised him that cutting one Sandman was fine, but getting ambushed by six others around the corner was not, and she recommended he stick close to the rest of the group. As she joined a group of Cubs in taking down another Sandman, she encouraged Billy that they had the few Sandmen down or on the run and that they should make their move.

City folk attempted to oppose the Cubs, but the teens who had been scavengers, having to fight for everything in their lives, overwhelmed the young adults who had lived in a society where everything had been provided for them.

Holding a knife to one of the Sandmen's throats, Angel told him to lead them to the Food Dispensers, and he directed them across the court to Compound C. Unable to stop them, some of the city folk nonetheless followed them  When Angel, Jimmy and their captive Sandman reached the Food Dispensers, the Sandman tried to comply with their demands to get them food but found that the computer was dead and couldn't provide anything. Although other Cubs raged, accusing the Sandman of lying and and voicing that he should be dying, Angel told her allies to look at the Sandman, as he was too scared to lie.

When Jessica 6, joined by the Old Man, investigated the commotion, the Cubs, who were conditioned to fear age, were disturbed at the site of the Old Man. Sandman reinforcements subsequently arrived, the Cubs were forced to flee, but they took Jessica and the Old Man with them. The Cubs used "drug gas" (Muscle?) to deter pursuers, but one of the pursuing Sandmen followed, smacking the Old Man with his blaster to get him out of the way and then clipping Angel. Billy rushed on with Jessica, figuring that others would help Angel get back and preferring to ensure that Jessica remained their hostage; Angel assured her allies that she was alright and that they had just "fleshed" her.

Later, as Angel expressed pain while Billy wrapped her wounded arm, Jessica told him that he was wrapping the wound too tightly and took over. When Billy told her to get away, Angel told Billy that if he moved against Jessica, she would cut him. Billy told Jessica that she was going soft, but she told him that he tried to harm Jessica, he would see how soft she was. She counseled him that citizens could be made to see their cause, but not if they started cutting them.

Soon after, Logan 5 was caught by other Cubs as he approached their location to rescue Jessica, and when Billy confronted him, Logan threw a gas pellet and then dropped to the ground, pulling Jessica with him, to avoid the gas.

Ultimately, despite Billy's Muscle-enhanced speed, Logan defeated him. When Billy tried to shoot Logan anyway, Angel blasted the weapon out of Logan's hands, insisting that he keep his word. As Logan and Jessica departed, Angel advised them that the Subs would find out where the city's food was hidden.

Sandmen subsequently arrived and assaulted the Cubs, who escaped through various means.

Courtesy of Loki, who recommended Angel to represent the Logan's Run series:

The 1976 movie is based on a 1967 novel of the same name by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson, but the movie has some significant differences from its source material, and the comic is based on the movie version rather than the novel. The last two issues of the comic appear to be new stories.

For the movie, story changes were made, including raising the age of "last day" from 21 to 30 and introducing the idea of  the "Carousel" for eliminating 30-year-olds, rather than using poison gas as in the novel.

Earth-76623 Circa 2274 A.D., the remnants of human civilization live in a sealed city beneath a cluster of geodesic domes, a utopia run by computer. The citizens live a hedonistic lifestyle, but to control the population, when they turn 30, they must enter the "Carousel," a public ritual that destroys their bodies, under the pretense they would be "Renewed" or reborn. Each person has embedded in their hand a "life-clock" crystal that changes color as they age, up to their "Last Day". Residents who attempt to flee the city are known as "Runners", and the team of huntsmen known as "Sandmen" are tasked to pursue and terminate them. Logan’s Run (1976); (Marvel) Logan’s Run #1 (1977)

The look and theme of this story really reminded me of a Star-Lord story from the 1970s.
