History:

(Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos I#1) - General von Ritzik was a ranking German officer in Louviers, France during the Nazi occupation of the country and took possession of a fortress in Louviers to staff his company. After some of his men captured Pierre LaBrave, a member of the Free French Resistance who had details of the Allies' planned D-Day invasion, von Ritzik received orders from Hitler himself to interrogate Pierre and learn what he knew about the invasion, but von Ritzik's men failed to force the information from their captive. When von Ritzik's reported his failure to Hitler, Hitler informed him if Pierre didn't talk, Hitler would have him and all ofhis staff put to death. Acknowledging his military staff had failed him, von Ritzik told the ranking Gestapo officer to perform his own interrogation.

von Ritzik watched as the Gestapo officer tried to trick Pierre into telling what he knew about D-Day, making Pierre think they had his daughter Marie in their custody in Berlin.

When the Howling Commandos invaded the fortress with Marie LaBrave in an attempt to rescue Pierre, Marie and most of the Howlers were captured by von Ritzik's men. General von Ritzik arranged for a firing squad to prepare the Howlers and Marie for death, hoping the sight of Marie in peril would finally cause Pierre to crack and confess what he knew, but the Howlers' leader Sgt. Nick Fury was still at large and he came to his team's rescue, liberating them from the Nazis. The Howlers released Pierre from von Ritzik's custody and took von Ritzik as their prisoner, commandeering his automobile and forcing him to let them through all military checkpoints. The Howling Commandos brought von Ritzik back to England with them so he could be interrogated by their own people.
