History:
(Quasar I#4 (fb) - BTS/Quasar I#18 (fb) - BTS) - Gayle Vaughn lived in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, not far from Fond du Lac, where her brother Wendell was born.

(Quasar I#49 (fb) - BTS) - As a child, Gayle took a family photo with her brother Wendell and mother Lisa.

(Quasar I#4 (fb) - BTS/Quasar I#18 (fb) - BTS) - Gayle eventually began college courses at the University of Wisconsin, majoring in business.

(Quasar I#4 (fb) - BTS) - At some point, Gayle Vaughn took a photo with her mother, Lisa.

(Quasar I#1 - BTS) - While moping at his mother's home in Oshkosh, Wisconsin following his S.H.I.E.L.D. finals, Wendell Vaughn was approached by his mother Lisa, who offered to let Wendell use her car to visit friends or his sister.

(Quasar I#4 (fb) - BTS) - When he started a security firm, Wendall Vaughn put the photo of Gayle Vaughn and his mother on his office desk.

(Quasar I#4 - BTS) - At the end of her work day at Vaughn Security Systems, secretary Kayla Ballantine said her goodbyes to Wendell and noticed the photo of his sister and mother on Wendell's desk. Noticing Kayla's curiosity, Wendell informed her that it was a picture of his mother Lisa and sister Gayle, explaining that they both lived in Wisconsin and that Gayle was going to college there. Kayla remarked that they both must be proud of Wendell running his own security firm and Wendell just replied "I guess so."

(Quasar I#18) - Unsure of how he wound up in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Wendell Vaughn decided to pay his mother a visit and when he arrived, Gayle and her mother Lisa were elated to see Wendell. Gayle and Lisa immediately hugged Wendell and as they moved to the living room couch, Gayle asked if Wendell's unscheduled visit was intended as a surprise. When Wendell admitted he couldn't remember why he was in the area, Gayle jokingly remarked "typical" then asked Wendell how their father Gilbert was doing. She then asked if Wendell had found a girlfriend in New York yet and when Wendell replied in the negative but mentioned his secretary Kayla Ballantine, Gayle suggested Wendell ask her out. Lisa quickly suggested Gayle cool it before asking if Wendell would be staying the weekend. When Wendell replied in the affirmative and suggested he call his office to let them know where he was, Gayle jokingly reminded Wendell not to forget to give Kayla kissy-noises. Ignoring Gayle's comment, Wendell phoned Kayla to inform her that he was visiting his mom and sister in Wisconsin.

Gayle later went up to Wendell's old room and woke him up for dinner. When Wendell jumped awake, Gayle commented that he must have really been asleep and when Wendell reiterated a dream in which he was a flying superhero, Gayle joked that Wendell being around all those New York superheroes must have done a number on Wendell's head. She then asked if he'd seen any heroes in-person and Wendell, not recalling that he himself was the heroic Quasar, mentioned how he recalled once meeting Captain America. Gayle then questioned if Wendell was okay, noting that he seemed to be acting even "mopier" than when he lived there. Claiming he was simply jet-lagged and overworked, Wendell asked how Gayle was doing at the University of Wisconsin and if she was still majoring in business. Gayle answered affirmatively, joking that boring careers ran in the family before ushering Wendell downstairs into the dining room for dinner.

(Quasar I#21) - Following her father Gilbert's death, Gayle Vaughn attended his funeral alongside her mother Lisa, brother Wendell, Wendell's secretary/girlfriend Kayla Ballantine and several other associates of Wendell. Following the service, Gayle accompanied Lisa, Wendell and Kayla from the cemetery, where Wendell flew into outburst due to his guilt over a fight he and his father had that now could not be forgiven. When Lisa suggested Wendell learn to forgive himself, Wendell stormed off, leaving a puzzled Gayle, Kayla and Lisa behind.

(Quasar I#26 - BTS) - Wendell Vaughn visited his mother Lisa in his superheroic identity of Quasar and when he entered the kitchen, Lisa was cooking and asked if it was Gayle returning home from work early.

(Quasar I#49 - BTS) - When Wendell Vaughn visited his mother's home in Oshkosh, he found the home empty and decided to wait for her to return home, noticing a photo of himself and Gayle as children with his mother and thinking perhaps he should give his mother an updated photo.

(Quasar I#60) - Feeling as if his very presence endangered those he cared about, Wendell Vaughn (in his superheroic guise of Quasar) opted to leave Earth forever and decided to say goodbye to his mother and sister first. Surprised to see Quasar, Gayle jumped up and gave him a hug, joking that her brother the superhero had finally decided to grace them with a visit. Halting their affection, Quasar admitted he had come to say goodbye, informing the shocked Gayle and Lisa that he may never see them again. Further explaining that he'd been neglecting his duties as Protector of the Universe, Quasar created a Quantum Energy globe for them to use to communicate with him in a life or death situation. When he admitted he would miss them both terribly, an emotional Gayle and Lisa hugged Quasar again. Feeling as if there was nothing more to say, Quasar said goodbye and flew off, both Gayle and Lisa waving to him as he departed.

(Star Masters I#2 (fb) - BTS) - Gayle Vaughn heard a news report that Quasar had died.

(Star Masters I#2) - Gayle and her mother were watching television when it was interrupted by a news brief confirming that a meteor (in actuality, a miniature black hole) was heading towards Earth. When the news reported their uncertainty as to whether the meteor would come within striking distance of the planet, Gayle commented that it looked like a job for her brother Wendell, assuming he was not dead as the news had earlier claimed. Lisa immediately argued that Wendell was not dead, insisting that she would if he were, and Gayle responded by remarking "Sure, Mom." Later, as the small black hole approached Earth, it was teleported away by the combined effort of the alien Beta Ray Bill and the still-very-much-living Quasar and both Lisa and Gayle witnessed the flash in the Earth's sky. Hugging Gayle, Lisa remarked that she knew Wendell wouldn't let such a catastrophe befall Earth and Gayle commented that the sky looked like fireworks in broad daylight before further remarking that Lisa had no idea if Wendell had anything to do with the black hole not arriving on Earth. Lisa replied that she just had a feeling Wendell was involved.

(Avengers: Infinity I#1 - BTS) - While out in space alone, Quasar thought about how he hadn't spoken to anyone in a long time and as he thought, he generated Quantum Energy images of those he missed speaking with including the Silver Surfer, Beta Ray Bill, the cosmic Epoch, his mother Lisa and sister Gayle. Thinking how much he missed Earth and his family, Quasar thought how even his best Quantum Energy images didn't do Lisa or Gayle justice.

Comments: Created by Mark Gruenwald, Greg Capullo and Keith Williams (though we saw a photo of her earlier in an issue by Mark Gruenwald, Paul Ryan and Danny Bulanadi).

Some online sources mention Gayle appearing in Quasar I#3 (in a photo) but I could not find her, or a photo of her, anywhere in that issue.

In her first two full appearances (Quasar I#18 & #21) and in the photo we see in Quasar I#4, Gayle's hair appears to be light brown but in the photo we see of her in Quasar I#49 and her full appearances in Quasar I#60 and Star Masters I#2, her hair appears more of a reddish-brown. Given that her hair appears to be reddish-brown in the childhood photo in Quasar I#49 and as an adult in Quasar I#60, perhaps Gayle temporarily dyed her hair a darker brown in Quasar I#18 before going back to her normal hair color. Either that or it was simply coloring errors in Quasar I#4 & #18.

Lisa Vaughn mentions Gayle returning from work early in Quasar I#26 but we never do actually see what Gayle does for a job.
