MIND-PROBE
Classification: Terrestrial technology
Creator: Hank Pym
User/Possessors: The Beast (Hank McCoy), Professor X (Charles Xavier), Yellowjacket (Hank Pym)
First Appearance: Avengers I#68 (September, 1969)
Powers/Abilities/Functions: The Mind-Probe has the ability to scan the surface of a person's mind, drawing forth whatever weighs most heavily upon them. While under the influence of the Mind-Probe's rays, a person will speak whatever is on on their mind. The energies of the Mind-Probe can also generate a visual of what the person is thinking of.
History:
(Avengers I#68) - When the Vision was rendered inert by Ultron-6,
Yellowjacket used his Mind-Probe to scan the surface of Vision's mind
to find a clue for defeating Ultron. Vision's mind displayed an image
of the Molecular Rearranger to the Avengers, which helped the Avengers
plan a strategy for defeating Ultron.
(X-Men I#66 (fb) - BTS) - Hank Pym published the Mind-Probe's plans in a scientific article. Charles Xavier read the article and used it to build his own working model, which he kept in the cellar lab of his Westchester County mansion.
(X-Men I#66) - When Xavier fell into a coma after psychically battling the Z'Nox, the Beast brought the Mind-Probe out of the cellar lab and used it on Xavier, hoping Xavier would reveal something to the X-Men that would help them know how best to treat his injuries. Under the machine's rays, Xavier said "The Hulk...! Must get him... before it's too late...!" Although the X-Men didn't understand Xavier's words, the Hulk's other self Bruce Banner directed them to a gamma-ray device which they used to bring Xavier out of his coma.
