magneto-gravity_machine-guna-mainMAGNETO-GRAVITY MACHINE

Classification: Extraterrestrial (Guna) technology

Creator: Unidentified Guna(n?) scientist

Possessors: Scientists on Gunava, first from the sun in the Janoth system, Andromeda Galaxy;
Master Scout Xakku (aka the Sun-Stealer) was tasked with locating a sun for it to use, but he did not possess the Magneto-Gravity Machine

First Appearance: Tales of Suspense I#55/2 (July, 1964)

Powers/Abilities/Functions: The Magneto-Gravity Machine could pull a star across intergalactic distances, or even the entire universe (see comments).

After measuring a sun's exact coordinates in space, its internal coordinates and its exact position in cosmic space and time, the necessary information would be transmitted back to Gunava.

The member of the Guna in proximity to the target star would place the instruments at coordinated points on a nearby planetoid where they would be most effective.

The scientists on Guna would then fire the Magneto-Gravity Machine, which was powered by stellar energy (at a maximum power of 400 trillion volts per micro-second) and would send enormous amounts of energy across the universe, striking the target sun, magnetizing it and drawing it to Gunava at "one hundred times the speed of light."

Trapped within Gunava's solar system, the target planet would provide the Gunava with heat and light for ages to come.

This machine reportedly transformed the stellar body into "anti-energy" to allow it to pass unharmed through barriers in space or time.magneto-gravity_machine-guna-transport

History:
(Tales of Suspense I#55/2 (fb)) - At an undetermined point in the past, the Guna race found that their own sun (Janoth?) was burning out, causing their world to become progressively colder and darker.

Unable to save their own dying star, the scientists of Gunava devised the Magneto-Gravity Machine in order to pull a new sun into their system to replace the failing one.

(Tales of Suspense I#55/2 (fb) - BTS) - Master Scout Xakku volunteered to explore the universe for a suitable star that exactly matched their own sun's size, radiance, etc.

Xakku eventually found what he was looking for in Sol, the Earth's sun.

(Tales of Suspense I#55/2 - BTS) - Xakku arrived on Earth's moon, drawing the attention of Uatu the Watcher.

Knowing Uatu's oath of non-interference, Xakku mocked his inability to stop him.

Uatu queried Xakku about how the device, and the arrogant Xakku fearlessly answered them all, only realizing too late that he had landed his ship on wet, spongy ground and that while Uatu had questioned him, his ship (which contained the equipment to coordinate the Magneto-Gravity machine's energies) had sunk.

Xakku suddenly realized that his own oxygen tanks were running low, and he would soon suffocate without help from Uatu. Uatu reiterated his own vow not to interfere with the lives of others, and walked away, leaving Xakku to die.

CommentsCreated by Stan Lee and Larry Lieber.

The OHotMU I#4: Appendix to Alien Races: Guna profile described the Magneto-Gravity Machine as a solar converter, perhaps indicating that they could instead absorb the energy of a sun and use it to restore their own, rather than actually transporting an entire sun across intergalactic distance.

Despite Xakku's foolishness, which destroyed his ship and the targeting equipment, as well as presumably his own life, the
Magneto-Gravity Machine remained on Gunava with the scientists...perhaps they tried again and resolved their situation somehow...or perhaps the people who had the technology to pull a sun across intergalactic distance found a way to restore their own sun and/or their world...or perhaps Gunava eventually became inhabitable...
