History:
(Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z HC Vol. 4 - Goodman,
Lieber, Kurtzberg & Book entry - BTS) - Emilee Freeman became the
manager of Freeman Bonding, Inc., a subsidiary of the Goodman, Lieber,
Kurtzberg and Book law offices and the only bonding agency specializing
in posting bail for supervillains. Despite the heroic She-Hulk's known
record for property damage and destruction, Freeman continually hired
She-Hulk as a bond agent.
(She-Hulk II#24) - Emilee Freeman was in a conference when She-Hulk
arrived at Freeman Bonding to pick up her commission for her most
recent bounty hunting job. Her assistant, Cecil Pierce, informed an
unidentified doctor on the phone that Mrs. Freeman was in a conference
and She-Hulk quickly grew impatient with Pierce. After sarcastically
following Pierce's orders to "park it" in the corner by literally
parking her motorcycle in the corner of the office, Mrs. Freeman exited
her conference to see what the commotion was, only to see She-Hulk.
Asking if She-Hulk was capable of being in any place for longer than
thirty seconds without causing property damage, Emilee Freeman assured
She-Hulk the damage would be coming out of her next commission before
leading She-Hulk back to her office, noting that there was someone
there who was dying to meet She-Hulk. Upon arrival, Freeman introduced
She-Hulk to Mr. Park from Providence Insurance, who questioned She-Hulk
on her recent property damage to the Mall of America during a battle
with the Absorbing Man. Park then admitted that he considered She-Hulk
a loose cannon and that he had informed Mrs. Freeman of his
recommendation that Providence Insurance terminate their coverage for
Freeman Bonding, Inc. unless Freeman ceased utilizing She-Hulk as a
bond agent. Freeman quickly assured She-Hulk that she had refused to
terminate her association with She-Hulk and suggested Park could tell
his superiors that. With that, Park bid Freeman and She-Hulk a good day
and departed, leaving the two to discuss matters. Freeman quickly told
She-Hulk not to worry about things and when She-Hulk mentioned her
possible resignation, Freeman reminded She-Hulk that she was freelance
and had no staff job with Freeman to resign from. Freeman then noted
that she could simply stop hiring She-Hulk but remarked that she was
not going to be doing that before giving She-Hulk her commission.
Repeating that She-Hulk need not worry about things, Freeman closed the
door and sighed.
(She-Hulk II#34 (fb) - BTS) -
Emilee Freeman learned from her sources that She-Hulk had joined a
supergroup called the Lady Liberators.
(She-Hulk II#34) - She-Hulk visited Emilee's office, where Emilee
informed She-Hulk that she didn't have any jobs for her at the moment.
She-Hulk protested, reminding Emilee that she had bills to pay too, but
Emilee claimed she couldn't help it if all of their bonded clients were
showing up to court. When Emilee commented that she was surprised
She-Hulk still had time for Freeman Bonding, She-Hulk questioned what
the comment was supposed to mean, at which point Emilee mentioned how
she had heard that She-Hulk had joined a new superteam called the Lady
Liberators. Commenting on the name of the group, sarcastically noting
that people could tell the group's genders by looking at the them,
Emilee followed up by asking what exactly the group was liberating.
When She-Hulk replied that she hadn't though up a mission statement,
Emilee suggested that perhaps she should and remarked that she would
call She-Hulk if a new job came up. Thanking Emilee, She-Hulk left
Freeman Bonding and thought to herself how Emilee had a point.
(She-Hulk II#37 (fb)) - Emilee
Freeman phoned She-Hulk to inform her a bond job tracking down a
criminal called Femme Fatale that had skipped bail. She-Hulk's bond
agent partner Jazinda answered the phone, claiming to be She-Hulk, and
Emilee quickly noticed the change in voice. When Emilee asked if
"She-Hulk" was alright, Jazinda shapeshifted into She-Hulk's form,
changing her voice to match She-Hulk's, and Emilee was sufficiently
fooled. Emilee then said she would email a file over to her and
welcomed "She-Hulk" back to Freeman Bonding. The real She-Hulk later
phoned Jazinda and informed her that Mallory Book intended to hire her
back at Goodman, Lieber, Kurtzberg and Book, at which point Jazinda
asked if she needed to tell Emilee Freeman that they were no longer in
the skip tracer business. When She-Hulk admitted she hadn't even
thought of that, Jazinda assured She-Hulk she would take care of Emilee
Freeman and suggested She-Hulk not worry about it, as Jazinda had
bounty hunter experience long before meeting She-Hulk.
Comments: Created by Peter David, Shawn Moll and Victor Olazaba.
We never hear of or see Emilee Freeman's spouse but she is referred to as MRS. Freeman in She-Hulk II#24, which means she is indeed married.
Pretty sure Cecil Pierce is based
on a series of snooty, sarcastic characters played by comedian David
Spade throughout his careers.
