phyllis-kronan-maker-ff2-magmamouthPowers/Abilities: Phyllis is a member of the Kronan race, whose bodies are composed of a strong, silicon like substance, granting them substantial superhuman strength (Phyllis appeared to be able to lift perhaps 75-100 tons) and protection against physical harm, including resistance to impacts, bladed weapons, various energies, and extremes of cold and heat. Kronans are virtually unkillable unless their bodies are shattered or ground into dust.

phyllis-kronan-maker-ff2-magmahands

Kronans survive by consuming sedimentary rocks such as coal or shale as food, and they have no apparent biological need for food, water, oxygen, or sunlight.

The average Kronan has a life expectancy measured in centuries.

Kronans can place themselves into suspended animation in which they retain a limited sense of their environment.

Kronans reproduce by holding hands and immersing them within a pool of lava (traditionally Mount Krona on the homeworld); after days of fasting and singing and of merging and hardening, the fused hands break apart, releasing the newborn "rockling."

Like other Kronans, Phyllis has three fingers and a thumb on each hand and three toes on each foot.

Kronans’ tear glands appear to produce a red blood-like fluid.

Phyllis is notably a Massein Kronan, a special type of Kronan who can draw on and channel magma (presumably reaching temperatures of at  least 1300-2400 degrees Fahrenheit (750 to 1400 Celsius).

Phyllis can superheat the rock on his/her/its hands as well as to pour magma from the mouth and/or project fiery blasts from the hands.

Fiery energies are sometimes seen glowing in cracks/spaces between plates in his/her/its body armor.

As a Massein Kronan, Phyllis may be even more resistant to extreme heat than the average Kronan, but she/he/it may or may not be more sensitive to cold than the average Kronan.

phyllis-kronan-maker-ff3-profile    Phyllis can draw magma and fire from the core of a planet, but this ability weakens with distance from the planet's core; it may be that Phyllis can only draw such energy while on the surface, and that upon reaching a certain distance from the surface there are finite reserves of magma Phyllis can utilize. However, a burst of fire can apparently reignite Phyllis' magma ability, even in a ship outside a planet's atmosphere.

A sufficient volume of water can douse Phyllis' flames, at least under some circumstances, such as when working from limited reserves in outer space.

Height: Unrevealed (perhaps 8'-9'; may or may not be able to enlarge under certain circumstances)
Weight: Unrevealed (approximately 2000 lbs.)
Eyes: Generally glowing yellow (possibly only glowing when accessing magma fires)
Hair: None

phyllis-kronan-maker-ff1History:

(Future Foundation#3 (fb) - BTS) - Phyllis is a Massein Kronan, a specific sect/form of the extraterrestrial, rock-based Kronan race that were "born of volcanoes for battle."

(Future Foundation#2 (fb) - BTS) <According to Phyllis> - Phyllis' magma power caused other Kronans to quake in fear at the mention of the name "Phyllis."

(Future Foundation#2 (fb) - BTS) - At some point, Phyllis was imprisoned on the prison planet L'ar Gath Five alongside her/his/its allies, Reed Richards-1610 (aka the Maker, or one of his multiversal counterparts), Kl'rath the Snark, and the Shi'ar Warbird At'li Vidua.

(Future Foundation#2 (fb) - BTS) - Some of the guards at L'ar Gath Five apparently mocked the contained and power-neutralized Phyllis.

(Future Foundation#1) - Having detected Reed Richards amongst the prisoners on L'ar Gath Five, the Future Foundation broke into his cell to free him.

The prisoner turned out to be Reed Richards-1610, aka the Maker, who was flanked by Phyllis, Kl'rath, and At'li.

(Future Foundation#2) - With Reed-1610 posing as Reed-616, he introduced Phyllis, Kl'rath, and At'li, as beings whom he had met and allied with in the prison, after which --with their power-dampeners shut down -- his allies slaughtered guards trying to stop them.

Frying a guard with her super-heated rock, Phyllis shouted, "Tremble at the power of Phyllis!"

As Phyllis gleefully poured magma from her/his/its mouth on the guards, Alex Power, Dragon Man, and "Yondu" (secretly Lyja the Laserfist) were disturbed by Phyllis and the others' bloodthirsty nature (though Bentley-23 did not care), which seemed unlike those with whom Reed-616 would ally.

Phyllis and its/her/his allies, along with the Future Foundation members who had liberated, soon met up with Artie, Leech, Onome, the Moloids, after which Onome's detector identified this Reed as being from an alternate reality.

When the system's security came back on-line, Reed-1610, Phyllis and their allies turned on the Foundation, plotting to steal their ship.

With Reed-1610's nature confirmed, the other Foundation members returned and attacked, and Julie Power and the Uhari (Vil & Wu) arrived with their new ally, Bucky/Rikki Barnes.

(Future Foundation#3) - As security forces confronted the gathered Future Foundation and Maker's team, Phyllis fired magma from his/her/its fists, destroying some bionic-tentacled creature confronting them.

While the others engaged in various missions, Maker, At'li, Alex Power, and Dragon Man joined Phyllis against the security forces.

Phyllis proudly advised At'li that they would pile high the corpses of these robots.

As their ship prepared for takeoff, Dragon Man advised that anyone who could not fly should board it, and Phyllis acknowledged that she/he/it would fling molten rock on their enemies from the skies.

Boarding the ship, Phyllis was pleased to meet Rikki whom it/she/he considered a fellow soldier, and he/she/it advised that the two of them would stay on the ship's entrance ramp and provide cover while those who could fly continued fighting until the ship approached the edge of the atmosphere.

When Rikki said she bet she would take down more enemies than Phyllis, Phyllis accepted the wager.

As those flying took to the air, the security drones merged into a giant arm that threatened to reach them. At'li instructed Phyllis to melt it, but -- too far from the ground -- Phyllis could no longer access/project any magma.

Onome then used a powerful weapon (originally built by Bentley-23 but modified by her) to destroy the giant arm.

(Future Foundation#4) - Having slain Kl'rath and adopted his form, Lyja provoked a confrontation with Future Foundation, during which Phyllis punched down Dragon Man, exclaiming, "It's lavain' time!" phyllis-kronan-maker-ff4-full2

As the fight continued, Phyllis smashed Dragon Man into a wall and urged him to give her a fight, at which point Dragon Man expelled green flame from his mouth, apparently causing Phyllis some pain. However, Phyllis then noted that the fire had only reignited Phyllis' lava and that Dragon Man's fate was sealed.

However, Tong the Moloid then arrived with the Molecule Man fragment the Reed-1610 had been seeking, leading him, Phyllis, and At'li to leave the battle to pursue Tong, who then used illusions to make it appear as if there were three forms of herself, causing them to split up to go after each form.

Phyllis was defeated when the Uhari, Vil and Wu, caused a chamber to fill with water, putting out Phyllis' flame.

(Future Foundation#4 - BTS) - Although Rikki fatally wounded Reed-1610, another Maker then appeared in another ship, claimed the Molecule Man fragment, and blew up the ship containing the Future Foundation, Rikki, Phyllis, and At'li.

Comments: Created by Jeremy Whitley, Will Robson, and Daniele Orlandini.

As At'li called Reed-1610 "captain," I would think that she, at least, and likely Phyllis and Kl'rath, was/were part of his crew before getting imprisoned on L'ar Gath Five.

Phyllis and At'li were not shown following their defeats in Future Foundation#4. They could have been killed in the explosion, or Phyllis' rocky form could have allowed him/her/it to survive both the explosion and/or being trapped in space, and/or the Maker could have saved one or both of them.

One might assume that Phyllis is female based on the name (a female name , although I don't think Phyllis is actually identified as a female. As Kronans reproduce asexually, I'm not even sure that are female Kronans. However, Phyllis could be the first confirmed female Kronan. You can see the Kronan profile for further discussion on that. I'm pretty sure the writer just picked the name Phyllis to be funny.
    According to behindthename.com:

Phyllis means "foliage" in Greek. In Greek mythology this was the name of a woman who killed herself out of love for Demophon and was subsequently transformed into an almond tree. It began to be used as a given name in England in the 16th century, though it was often confused with Felicia.

In Future Foundation, while chasing Tong, Phyllis notes a lack of a desire to harm other subterranean species; presumably that means that the Massein Kronans are subterranean.

Phyllis looked pretty different in Future Foundation#4, but that's due to that issue having a different artist.

Massein is a Greek word meaning "to knead," and it is at least partially the origin of the word massage.  Perhaps there's another meaning I'm not aware of, otherwise I'm not sure if the term has some significance, or if it is a strictly made up word.
