Powers/Abilities: Ape is a mutant with the ability to alter his form to resemble, or "ape" a variety of forms. He had been seen mimicking versions of objects like a trashcan and a bed. Beside a full transformation, Ape has also been seen changing only a part of his body like changing the size of his hands or change them into flippers. Unlike his Earth-616 counterpart Ape can also shapeshift his form to fully impersonate another person, while facing the X-Men he was seen posing as Scott Summers, only his scent giving him away.

History:

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Captive Hearts" - BTS) - Cast out from society because of his physical mutation, Ape became part of the Morlocks, a group of mutants living in the abandoned sewer tunnels and atomic bomb shelters that honeycomb Manhattan.

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Captive Hearts" - BTS) - Callisto, leader of the Morlocks became aware of the mutant heroes the X-Men, determined to have Cyclops rule by her side and produce an heir, Callisto sent the young Leech to gain their attention. Callisto's plan proved successful as they soon lured Cyclops and Jean Grey and a group of unsuspecting humans into the tunnels where Tar Baby, Erg, Masque, Plague and Sunder awaited them. The Morlocks successfully captured the X-Men.

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Captive Hearts") - Ape was present sometime later when the X-Men regained consciousness and learned Callisto wanted to produce an heir with Cyclops. The Morlocks, however, were unable to stop the telepathic Jean Grey from warning her teammates. The Morlocks prepared for the coming battle.

  Upon the X-Men's arrival several of the Morlocks opposed them until they successfully freed Jean Grey from Annalee's hypnotic control after which they found "Cyclops". But when Wolverine learned it was in fact the shapeshifting Ape total chaos erupted as the X-Men fought the Morlocks to find Cyclops. During this fight Ape, turned into a ball hanging from the ceiling, knocked Storm out of the sky. In the end it was Storm who challenged Callisto over control of the Morlocks and won. Using her new powers as leader of the Morlocks, Storm urged the tunnel dwellers to join them above ground and offered a home in the X-Mansion. The Morlocks refused, believing that only when humans and mutants could coexist they could join them.

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Till Death Do Us Part - Part I") - While out at night, Ape and Tommy became the victim of anti-mutant violence when they were chased by the human supremacists the Friends of Humanity. Ape transformed into a trashcan while Tommy whose mutation allowed her to become paper-thin blended in with a wall. When the human supremacists ran past them, the duo returned to the sewers.

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Out of the Past - Part I" - BTS) - Learning an alien spacecraft had been buried for centuries near the Morlocks tunnels, Callisto sent Leech to infiltrate the Reavers' base to steal a weapon that could penetrate the ship's forcefield. Unbeknownst to Callisto and the Morlocks, the spacecraft was in fact a Shi'ar prison-ship containing the dangerous Shi'ar creature the Spirit Drinker, which had accidentally crash-landed on Earth.

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Out of the Past - Part I") - Ape, Erg, Callisto, Leech and Tommy were present when Leech returned from his mission but had been discovered and inadvertently led the Reavers and their leader Lady Deathstrike into the Morlock tunnels where they attacked the Morlocks. Ape was one of the many Morlocks caught in the Reavers' bionet which rendered the Morlocks unconscious.

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Out of the Past - Part II") - Lady Deathstrike tricked Wolverine into opening the alien spacecraft with his Adamantium claws which accidentally released the Spirit Drinker. The Shi'ar creature's sole purpose was to drain the life force of anyone it could find and immediately attacked the Reavers, draining them of their life force. As the Soul Drinker made it's way to the Morlock tunnels it took the life force of Ape and the other Morlocks, still trapped in the Reavers' bionets. Sometime later the X-Men made their way down to the tunnels and eventually managed to defeat the creature, causing all of the drained life forces to be returned to their original bodies, thus saving Ape and the Morlocks.

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Sanctuary - Part I" - BTS) - Ape and mutants from around the world watched as Magneto spoke at the United Nations, announcing the liberation of mutantkind. Magneto revealed that he and several missing scientists had built a mutant-only home on Asteroid M in the Earth's orbit. Magneto invited all mutants, explaining a first exodus would take place near Genosha.

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Sanctuary - Part I") - Eager to join Magneto and move to Asteroid M, Ape and many other Morlocks quickly made his way to a local airport where large groups of mutants had gathered to buy a ticket to the African nation where the first exodus would take place. Ape and several other mutants gathered on the African planes where Charles Xavier, Gambit and Beast of the X-Men had gathered hoping to persuade Magneto to stop his plan, fearing other nations would retaliate. Soon Magneto arrived with his transport welcoming the mutants and X-Men aboard. Instead of bringing the mutants directly to Asteroid M, Magneto first went to Genosha to free their enslaved mutants.

    Upon arrival Magneto urged the Genoshan mutants to cast off their bonds and join them, in a mighty show of force Ape, Tar Baby, Tommy and Sunder left the transport to form a powerful front. Magneto's call, however, was answered by the Genoshan magistrates who refused to release their prisoners which in turn led to the mutant convoy to attack them. Assisted by the Acolytes (a group of mutants pledging allegiance to Magneto's righteous cause) a fierce battle followed in which the mutants quickly gained the upper hand, prompting the Genoshan magistrates to release a group of Sentinels to level the playing field. In the end Magneto, repowered by his Acolyte Fabian Cortez destroyed the Sentinels, forcing the Genoshan magistrates to flee and freed the Genoshan mutants.

    Finally arriving on Asteroid M, Ape and the other newcomers were welcomed and some of them even invited to a ceremonial toast alongside Magneto. Disappointed Magneto wasn't the fearless leader he'd hoped for, Fabian Cortez confronted Magneto, taking away his powers. Believing Magneto would serve their cause better as a martyr Cortez trapped him in his chambers and opened the airlock, causing Magneto's chambers to be pulled into Earth's atmosphere. Suspicious of Asteroid M's alarm, X-Men Beast and Gambit quickly located Cortez only to be accused of killing their enigmatic leader Magneto.

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Sanctuary - Part II") - Although Professor X and Beast successfully escaped, Gambit was taken prisoner by the Acolytes. Sometime later Cortez addressed world leaders, threatening to attack them unless they would release all mutants in captivity and pay restitution for human crimes against them, a feat which Ape, Peeper, Slither and other mutants celebrated. Unbeknownst to Ape and the others, a small strike team of X-Men arrived at Asteroid M to not only save Gambit but deactivate all of Asteroid M's active warheads. In the end Magneto, revived, destroyed the active warheads after which he attacked and defeated Cortez. In a mighty show of force Magneto finally destroyed Asteroid M, Ape and all other mutants were safely returned to the African planes, under the watchful eyes of MjNari and the Black Panther.

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Have yourself a Morlock little Christmas" (fb)) - When Leech had fallen ill, Ape and Annalee brought the little boy to a hospital only to be refused when Leech inadvertently caused a nurse to faint.

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Have yourself a Morlock little Christmas" (fb) - BTS) - At whit's end, Ape and Annalee hijacked an ambulance to acquire medicines.

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Have yourself a Morlock little Christmas") - Ape and Annalee quickly lost control over the wheel and crashed the ambulance into the ice skating rink at Rockefeller Center where X-Men Storm, Wolverine and Jubilee enjoyed some downtime after doing their Christmas shopping. Ape used his powers to enlarge his hand to tear out the ambulance's door to grab the medicines when the X-Men stopped them. Hearing the Morlocks plea, Storm decided it was her duty as leader of the Morlocks to aid them.

    Ape and Annalee returned with the X-Men to the Morlock tunnels. Upon examining the boy, Wolverine was certain Leech couldn't be moved lest he die. It was then decided Wolverine would perform a blood transfusion while they would send for Beast. The Morlocks watched as Ape transformed into a bed for Wolverine to lay on for the duration of the blood transfusion. As the X-Men and Morlocks waited they offered Storm and Jubilee to join them for dinner as it was Christmas Eve. Not long after the blood transfusion was deemed a success as Leech recovered just as Beast arrived. To share the Christmas feeling with the Morlocks, Jubilee gave them the Christmas presents she'd bought earlier for her friends as both X-Men and Morlocks joined in the festivities.

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Secrets, Not Long Buried" - BTS) - Ape moved to Skull Mesa, Nevada where Dr. Taylor Prescott had established a community where mutants could live in peace. However, the town was soon taken over by the villainous Solarr and his allies Chet Lambert and Toad after learning of it's underground goldmine. Dr. Taylor Prescott opposed the villains but was placed in suspended animation and soon had all of the town's residents living in fear by attacking anyone who questioned his authority, forcing some like Sunder, Slither, Random and Forearm to work in the goldmine.

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Secrets, Not Long Buried" - BTS) - When the X-Man Cyclops had come to Skull Mesa to meet his old friend Dr. Taylor Prescott he was confronted by Solarr and his allies. Through the following days Cyclops learned Solarr had taken over the city forcing residents such as Ape, Mole and Copycat to live in fear. Determined to stop Solarr, a temporary depowered Cyclops fought back.

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Secrets, Not Long Buried") - Ape, Random, Reaper and several other mutants gathered at the town's square when Solarr openly confronted Cyclops. Solarr falsely claimed Cyclops was one of the subversives who wished to destroy their lives, something he'd warned the townspeople of before. Solarr continued, explaining that a crystal sculpture Cyclops was carrying was in fact a transmitter to summon his friends. Cyclops, who was bound to a large golden sculpture of Solarr with Toad's green muck urged the townsfolk to see Solarr for who he really was, a tyrant who held the innocent Dr. Taylor Prescott in the goldmine. Deciding to finally stand up to Solarr, one of the townsfolk, Tusk attacked Solarr and freed Cyclops. As a full fledged fight erupted other townsfolk like Lady Gardener and Dr. Darrell Tanaka helped Cyclops while others like Ape stayed clear of the fight. Cyclops, repowered thanks to Tanaka, used his optic blast on the crystal sculpture to take them out with a single blast. When Solarr was defeated the townsfolk realized what he'd put them through. Meanwhile Dr. Prescott had been freed and was reunited with Cyclops after which he told the X-Man they would deal with Solarr and his men in Skull Mesa.

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Graduation Day" - BTS) - Ape returned to the Morlock tunnels.

(X-Men: The Animated Series cartoon - "Graduation Day") - Ape, Leech, Scaleface, Sunder, Tommy and Callisto watched a televised debate between Charles Xavier and Henry Gyrich over a "mutant containment bill" from the Morlock tunnel when Xavier was attacked by Gyrich, outing him as a mutant. Soon enough mutant uprisings were seen throughout the world.

When, in 2015's Secret Wars, the Multiverse was destroyed following the incursions of planets it appeared as if Reality-92131 was drafted onto Battleworld as the Westchester domain. All Earth-92131 profiles on the Marvel Appendix reflected that information, however, this has since been debunked with the news that the original X-Men: The Animated Series will receive a brand new season to pick up where the original series ended. As such the reality seen in two volumes of X-Men '92 (2015-2017) now have their own reality-designation. The X-Men '92: House of XCII 2022 series was inspired by both the animated series and Hickman's House of X run but is its own separate reality. Nearly thirty years after X-Men: The Animated Series first debuted the new season will appear on Disney+ in fall 2023.
