History:
(Night Thrasher II#14 (fb) - BTS) - Tommy Ng was born in poor circumstances and he had dreams of becoming rich and powerful. After discovering his mutant ability to light things on fire, he called himself Scorch and got involved in the drug trade, with the ultimate goal of running his own legitimate company.

(Night Thrasher II#13 (fb) - BTS) - Scorch set up a drug-running business in Chinatown in New York City. He paid the Steel Waves gang to run the drugs for him.

(Night Thrasher II#13 (fb) ) - Night Thrasher, Midnight's Fire, and Silhouette attacked the Steel Waves, easily defeating them, even knocking one into a vat of acid. Scorch revealed himself and set the building on fire in an attempt to kill the heroes, but they survived as he escaped.

(Night Thrasher II#14 (fb) - BTS) - In the years following, Ng used the capital from the drug trade to build his own company, and he soon became president of his own pharmaceutical enterprise, Bio-Dyne. In time, Bio-Dyne worked on a drug called Sonovil, which could quell aggression and violent impulses, but they took the research as far as they could. Multi-Chem, a larger company and a subsidiary of the Taylor Foundation, sought to acquire Bio-Dyne and Sonovil, and Ng agreed to meet with the company president, Dwayne Taylor, the civilian identity of Night Thrasher.

(Night Thrasher II#13) - Taylor arrived to meet with Scorch.

(Night Thrasher II#14) - Realizing the contract being offered Ng was not the master copy, Ng burned the paper, even as he told Taylor that his days of being Scorch were over. He told Taylor to bring the contract to Multi-Chem that evening. When Ng showed up at Multi-Chem, he found Taylor in his Night Thrasher suit, and the hero confessed he'd initially designed the suit after fighting Scorch the first time, and Ng accused Taylor of having anger management problems. Before Taylor could retrieve the contract, Silhouette attacked, flanked by Bandit, and she wanted revenge against Scorch for putting drugs on the street when she was a kid. As a fight broke out, Ng fled, saying he had started a new life, but Silhouette went after him, causing him to put up a wall of flames and then attack the heroine directly. Taylor jumped in, his armor resistant to the flame, and put a knife to Ng's throat, asking Silhouette if she wanted Ng dead. Silhouette preferred Ng be arrested to face justice, but Taylor helped her realize that lawyers would get him off scot-free. They let Ng go instead.
