History:
(Solo I#1 (fb) - BTS) - The villain Scorch joined the terrorist organization of A.R.E.S., alongside operatives Deathstorm and Cygnus, with Emil Tessler as their financial backer and leader.

(Solo I#2 (fb) - BTS) - Scorch had a teleportation chip implanted in his temple, allowing him to teleport anywhere he needed to go for missions.

(Solo I#3 (fb) - BTS) - A.R.E.S. established its base in the Adirondack Mountains near Lake George.

(Solo I#1) - Scorch was sent with A.R.E.S. men to raid the files on terrorism and counter-terrorism from the United Nations. After finding the files he needed, Scorch ordered the place to be burned down, but Spider-Man attacked. Scorch set the room on fire then teleported away. Back at HQ, Scorch questioned Tessler about the importance of the files, and Tessler wondered about the loyalties of Cygnus and Deathstorm now that operative Solo was targeting them.

(Solo I#2) - Tessler flew the A.R.E.S. helicarrier over New York City and he sent Scorch, Cygnus, and Deathstorm to intimidate or execute Delvadian Ambassador Ortega, a mission that would ensure a United Nations measure failed which would allow A.R.E.S.' benefactor in another country to rise to power. A.R.E.S. attacked, flanked by soldiers, and Scorch fired fiery blasts against some of the guards. Deathstorm ordered Scorch to set explosives that would destroy the entire building. Solo and Spider-Man attacked Scorch, who fired a series of flames at the heroes, but Spider-Man knocked out Scorch, disabling the teleportation chip. Spider-Man and Solo then stopped A.R.E.S. from completing their mission.

(Solo I#3 (fb) - BTS) - Scorch was arrested.

(Solo I#3) - Solo was questioned by Detective LeGrand, but he refused to tell the truth about A.R.E.S. Spider-Man broke in to question Scorch just as A.R.E.S. activated the teleporter chip, which brought Spidey and Scorch back to the A.R.E.S. headquarters. Scorch was taken to the brig while the others fought Spidey. In the subsequent battle with Solo, the A.R.E.S. base was destroyed and Tessler and Cygnus abandoned the others.

(Solo I#4) - Back in uniform, Scorch pledged himself to Deathstorm as the new leader of A.R.E.S. Tessler and Cygnus attacked the United Nations, and Deathstorm led Scorch and A.R.E.S. in a mission to defeat them. After Deathstorm killed Tessler, Scorch held Cygnus off with flame bolts until Solo shot Scorch in the neck. Later, A.R.E.S. was defeated.
