History: (Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man II#1 (fb) ) - A low-level criminal found a mask and, using some glue and craft supplies, fashioned a low-rent super villain costume for himself.

(Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man II#1) - Calling himself Mindbender and claiming to have psychic powers, the criminal cornered a couple, Gerry and Mandy, plus their son, in an alley, demanding their valuables. They complied, but when Spider-Man swooped down, Mindbender was paralyzed with fear, meekly allowing Spider-Man to snatch his mask off as he mumbled an explanation.

Comments: Created by Chip Zdarsky and Goran Parlov.

This guy is somehow even more of a doofus than the likes of Destructor and the Basher.

Profile by Minor Irritant.

CLARIFICATIONS:
Mindbender has no known connections to:

Gerry, Mandy, and their son

(Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man II#1/2) - Clueless couple Gerry and Mandy, plus their gaming-obsessed son, tried to find their car in New York City. Gerry's phone told him to cut through a gloomy alley as a shortcut, and they did so over Mandy's objections. There, they ran into the malevolent Mindbender, who demanded their valuables until Spider-Man showed up and revealed that Mindbender was just a guy in a silly mask. Through the entire ordeal, their son was occupied with playing Iron Man 7: Secret Armor Wars on his phone; Spider-Man was displeased to see that he was featured in the game as an NPC for Iron Man to rescue. When the Black Widow started firing on him from the rooftops, Spider-Man ordered the family to seek cover.
