Real Name: Unrevealed
Identity/Class: Normal human
Group Membership: None
Affiliations: Bookie (Johnny LaDue), Screwball
Known Relatives: None
Base of Operations: New York City
First Appearance: Amazing Spider-Man I#562 (August, 2008)
Powers/Abilities: The Basher is apparently a normal human with no special powers, skills, or equipment.
History: (Amazing Spider-Man I#562 (fb) - BTS) - The Basher was hired to challenge "Spider-Man" (actually a disguised Screwball) to a fight, then to lose that fight, by the Bookie.
(Amazing Spider-Man I#562) - The Basher posted a video on YouTube, calling Spider-Man a coward and challenging him to a high noon rematch atop a West Fultron Street tenement, as their last battle had ended in a draw (although they had, in reality, never fought before). At noon (or not, see comments), the Basher stood atop the tenement, calling out to Spider-Man with recycled movie dialogue. At the appointed time, "Spider-Man" showed up and took the Basher out with a single kick to the face.
Comments: Created by Bob Gale, Mike McKone, and Andy Lanning.
The Basher could be an actual super villain, albeit a crummy one, or he could just be some out of work actor. Maybe he's a bluffer, like the Destructor.
Despite the Basher explicitly challenging Spider-Man to fight at high noon, the art depicts the "fight" happening in the middle of the night.
