(Cowboy Action#11/6 (fb) - BTS) - Tim Grant was
raised on a country ranch near Abilene, Texas. Like many 16-year-olds,
he idolized Billy the Kid from tales he read in magazines.
(Cowboy Action#11/6) - Lost in another magazine about
Billy the Kid, Tim's father hurried the boy to mend a fence. Riding
horseback, Tim came across a badly injured man lying a shallow ditch.
The man refused Tim's offer to get him to a doctor, wanting only water,
and lied about a gunshot wound. Seeing the bundled magazine in Tim's
back pocket, the man asked what he was reading and Tim told him it was
about the glamorous adventures of Billy the Kid, but the man just
ridiculed the exaggeration. Failing to reach agreement, Tim supplied
the man with basic food, but asked for the man's name. He revealed it
was Billy the Kid as he rode off, leaving Tim flabbergasted.
