miles, although this exhausted her to the point of nearly collapsing.
It took her time to recharge her energies, and after a major effort she could only transport herself and one another a few feet.
Lourdes was bilingual, speaking fluent Spanish and English.
Lourdes was very wealthy, and she traveled by limousine driven by her personal chauffeur.

(Classic X-Men I#7/2 (fb)) - A mutant born into great wealth, Lourdes Chantel joined the elite Hellfire Club organization.

BTS) - Lourdes fell in love with the young industrialist Sebastian Shaw
on first sight; even though he was then relatively poor while she was
extremely rich, she wanted him more than she had ever wanted anyone
before.
Lourdes and Sebastian began dating.
(X-Men: Hellfire Club#4 (fb)) -
Lourdes visited the now-wealthy Sebastian on a work site, teasing him
for no greeting her properly.
Upon seeing her, he made a show of humbly apologizing, and she advised him that a private lesson in the finer ways of the court was in order, and they entered their limousine and promptly began kissing passionately.

BTS) - When Sebastian's name came up for induction into the Hellfire
Club, Lourdes feared for her lover, considering its White King, Edward
Buckman, to be a scoundrel and knowing that the Club changed,
corrupted, and destroyed people.
Lourdes tried to prevent Sebastian's induction, but Buckman respected women's opinions less than dogs.
(X-Men: Hellfire Club#4 (fb)) - As Sebastian was initiated into the Hellfire Club -- alongside John Braddock, Warren Worthington, Jr., and Howard Stark -- Lourdes continued to fear for her lover's well-being.
That evening, as she waited in bed
while Sebastian showered, she advised him that he placed too much faith
in Buckman, whom she considered a snake that was sinking his fangs into
him.
Sebastian countered that she
either overestimated Buckman or underestimated himself; telling Lourdes
that he was full of surprises, he produced an engagement ring. 
Lourdes walked out to the balcony, where she reiterated her concerns about Buckman and the Hellfire Club.
Sebastian told her that she should
know that nothing could destroy him, and when she urged him that she
was serious, he told her that she was the one thing he prized more than
the empire he had spent his life building with his bare hands.
She asked him if this was true, and after he assured her it was, they embraced.
(X-Men: Hellfire Club#4 (fb) - BTS) - Lourdes and Sebastian had their happiest Christmas together.
(Classic X-Men I#7/2 (fb)) - At
the New York Hellfire Club's annual gala around New Years, Lourdes danced with
Sebastian, warning him not to trust the White King, Edward Buckman, as
he was a false friend and a lying patron.
As she noted that Buckman was
human and hated them as mutants, Sebastian quieted her, noting they'd
discuss it later as Buckman approached. Buckman introduced his White
Queen, Paris Seville, while Sebastian introduced Lourdes.
Lourdes remained silent as Buckman
noted how Shaw would make a fitting Black King and that Steven Lang's
reports proved that Project Armageddon looked to be a complete success.
Following Buckman's departure, Lourdes warned of his treachery, noting
how Buckman sought to destroy the X-Men, who had always defended
mutantkind.
When Sebastian argued that they were just seeking to exploit and profit from the genetic X-factor that created mutants, Lourdes told him "Hold fast to your fantasy, querido." ("dear" in Spanish)
Sebastian ended the discussion, but asked his
computer-minded ally, Tessa, to analyze Buckman's behavior, but she
only offered that he could be genuine or using a classic military
strategy to disarm one's foe by pretending friendship.
(Classic X-Men I#7/2 (fb) - BTS) - Shaw then made mental contact with Emma Frost who was staying at his beach house in East Hampton, noting Lourdes' concerns, and Emma revealed that Buckman and Lang's Project Armageddon's true goal was the total eradication of mutantkind. As Shaw cursed Buckman's betrayal, Lang's Sentinels ambushed Frost.

Fearing that neither Emma nor Harry Leland could stand against the
Sentinels, Sebastian told Lourdes to teleport them (himself, Lourdes,
and Tessa) there. Having never carried that many people such a
distance, Lourdes expressed her uncertainty in her ability, but
Sebastian grabbed her by the throat and instructed Lourdes that he
would not be refused and that she should do as she was told.
Lourdes
performed the teleportation, then nearly collapsed (Tessa supported her).
As Shaw faced the Sentinel, it
bound him in cables before he could accumulate much strength.
Despite Tessa's warning of her weakness, Lourdes rushed forward, grabbed Sebastian and teleported him out of the cables.
However, as they emerged only a few feet away, the Sentinel fired a spear from its finger, impaling and mortally wounding Lourdes.

With Leland's aid, Shaw destroyed the Sentinel.
He then embraced
Lourdes, asking her to forgive him for bringing her to this. As she
assured Sebastian that she would forgive him anything, always, Emma
neutralized Lourdes' pain receptors, while Tessa considered that Shaw
never realized how much she had loved him.
Lourdes weakly told
Sebastian that she wished she could once more see the sun, stroll Las
Ramblas street at home in Barcelona, and pray in the Sagrada Familia temple.
Wondering why Buckman hated them, she reached up and kissed Sebastian
as she died.
(X-Men: Hellfire Club#4 (fb)) - Sebastian tearfully put the engagement ring on Lourdes' finger and embraced her.

Answering Lourdes finally question that Buckman
hated what they were and what they represented, Sebastian resolved to
give them cause.
(Classic X-Men I#7/2 (fb) - BTS) - Emma Frost mentally controlled Buckman, forcing him to kill the rest of his Council of the Chosen, while Shaw himself subsequently slew Buckman. He then had himself, Frost, and Leland replaced the Council of the Chosen as the Lords Cardinal, vowing that mutants would no longer be victims but rulers, first of the Hellfire Club, and then, the world
