Classification: Terrestrial cave

Creator: The Serpent Den cave was naturally occurring

User/Possessors: Sons of the Serpent (Supreme Serpent/Tai Chen, numerous unidentified others)

First Appearance: Avengers I#32 (September, 1966)

Powers/Abilities/Functions: The Serpent Den was a cave which functioned as a base of operations for the Sons of the Serpent organization. It was equipped with a podium bordered by two serpent-shaped poles from where the Supreme Serpent would give speeches. The lighting within the cave was only from hand-carried torches.

History: (Avengers I#32 (fb) - BTS) - The Sons of the Serpent began basing themselves out of a cave in New York City, which they called the Serpent Den.

(Avengers I#32) - After the Sons of the Serpent roughed up New York resident Mr. Gonzales for not being born in America, one of their number suggested they hurry to a nearby rooftop to take their helicopter to the Serpent Den, where a meeting was about to begin about their newest membership drive. A short time later, the Supreme Serpent of the Sons of the Serpent led a meeting within New York's Serpent Den cave in which the radically xenophobic group attempted to recruit new members, unaware the meeting was secretly being watched by none other than the Black Widow.

Comments: Created by Stan Lee and Don Heck.

The Sons of the Serpent have had many headquarters throughout their history but only two of them were called the Serpent Den. This profile only covers the original cave Serpent Den. Since the second Serpent Den was a totally different location and building, I chose to leave that one for a separate profile.

I apologize for the lack of great images in this profile but the Serpent Den only appeared on three panels, two of which are included in this profile. The third panel was very similar to the 2nd image in this profile: just a crowd in front of a pink wall.

Profile by Proto-Man.

This, the original, Serpent Den should be distinguished:
