History:
(New X-Men I#156 - BTS) - After manifesting his mutant abilities, Germaine enrolled at the Xavier Institute. After a while, he began dating Mindee, one of the telepathic Stepford Cuckoos.
(New X-Men I#155 (fb) - BTS) - After the Magneto imposter Xorn (Kuan-Yin Xorn) had destroyed the Xavier Institute Germaine, the Stepford Cuckoos and other students took refuge in the temporary X-Corp building in Salem Center.
(New X-Men I#155 - BTS) - The X-Corps building came under siege by a large mob of humans who had grown to fear mutants following the attacks carried out by "Magneto". When Emma Frost came to check on Germaine and the other students, she was knocked out when someone threw a stone at her head. Germaine used his fire generating abilities to keep the angry mob at bay while the Stepford Cuckoos helped the unconscious Emma inside the building.
(New X-Men I#156) - After Frost had regained consciousness, Germain revealed he had used his powers to get her to safety and was ready to fight again. But Frost didn't want him or the others to stoop to the human's level of senseless violence. Just when the angry mob had gained access to the X-Corps building, Cyclops and Beast arrived to help out. While they tried to get students safely away from the building, Germaine used his fire powers to once again keep the crowd away. With only Frost and Germaine left inside, they did their best to fight off the mob but Frost was unable to stop them from overpowering and bludgeoning Germaine to death. Frost, shifted to her diamond form, eventually recovered his corpse from the burning building.

Hothead is an interesting codename for a mutant who only seemed able to lit his hands on fire, maybe it was meant to emphasize his temper.
Germaine received his last name and codename in the Xavier Student Body entry in the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A-Z HC#13.
