History: (Alpha Flight I#19 (fb) - BTS) - Zebediah Chase was a robber who took a young Lucas Stang in after his parents died. Taking Lucas with him during a robbery, Zebediah stole mystic necklaces from the granddaughter of an old Native American mystic and, after donning the necklaces, learned that the necklaces protected Lucas and himself from the Great Beast Ranaq, who was told to be able to do anything he wished.

(Alpha Flight I#19) - Learning that the necklaces also allowed him to control Ranaq, Zebediah ordered the elderly mystic to summon Ranaq despite the old man's warnings. When Ranaq manifested in the flesh of the old man, Lucas tried to shoot Ranaq to no avail and Zebediah watched as Ranaq failed to harm Lucas in retaliation due to the necklaces. Ordering Ranaq to bring him women, money and power, Zebediah found that he could not touch anything Ranaq summoned due to the necklace's protection and Ranaq tricked Zebediah into taking off his necklace in order to touch the beautiful woman he had brought forth. As Zebediah leaned in to kiss the woman despite Lucas' apprehension, the woman transformed into a monstrous form and gave Ranaq a window to possess Zebediah and be reborn on the Earthly plane through Zebediah's body. As the Ranaq-possessed Zebediah fought off a time-traveling Alpha Flight, Lucas learned that he had to use the mystic necklace to stop Ranaq. Breaking up Zebediah's necklace into a bullet-shaped fragments, Lucas shot Zebediah, killing him and driving Ranaq away. Lucas then buried Zebediah in a place he was directed to by the recovered old Native American mystic.

(Alpha Flight I#18 - BTS) - A hundred years later, Lucas Stang retained a picture of Zebediah Chase on the wall of his home.
