ULTIMATE NULLIFIER

Classification: Extradimensional (Earth-20051 (? - see comments)) extraterrestrial technology

Creator: Unrevealed

User/Possessors: Galactus, Reed Richards, Spider-Man, Ant-Man

First Appearance: Marvel Adventures Avengers#26 (August, 2008)

Powers/Abilities/Functions: Also dubbed a Quantum Nullifier, the Ultimate Nullifier altered probabilities so that those in its immediate vicinity would be as if they were on a level playing field, where everything would have an equal likelihood of affecting anything else, regardless of size or power.

History:

(Marvel Adventures Avengers#26 (fb)) - Galactus threatened to consume the Earth but was stopped by Reed Richards, who had been guided to the Ultimate Nullifier by the Watcher. Richards threatened to wield the Ultimate Nullifier against the world devourer. Richards then handed over the Nullifier to Galactus in exchange that he never eat the Earth.

(Marvel Adventures Avengers#26 (fb) - BTS) - The fame of being the only planet to ever be spared by Galactus spread. When the world of Baston-Kar was threatened, the natives rushed to Earth to gather the weapon as a defense.

(Marvel Adventures Avengers#26) - The Baston-Karians sought the Avengers' help and they all traveled back to their home world to confront Galactus. While Galactus confined the other Avengers in a force field, Ant Man used alien ants to enter Galactus' ship and snatch the Ultimate Nullifier. Ant Man threatened to use the device but Galactus declared that this gambit would not work again and asserted that firing it would end life for light years around. However, Spider-Man, believing there to be another aspect to the Nullifier, triggered it. Probabilities changed and the Avengers played against Galactus and the Silver Surfer in different scenarios until Galactus realized that lava worlds were more delicious than inhabited worlds. His hunger assuaged, the reality-warping challenges were over. Spider-Man activated the Ultimate Nullifier once more and everything returned to normal. The Avengers then left Baston-Kar for Earth, with Spider-Man presumably still holding the device.

Comments: Created by Jeff Parker (writer), Ig Guara (pencils) and Sandro Ribeiro (inks).

This is potentially the greatest discrepancy so far between the Marvel Adventures line of comics and suggests that they are actually from different realities - at least between Marvel Adventures Avengers and Marvel Adventures Fantastic Four, the latter showing the Fantastic Four stopping Galactus using teleportation projectors that made the Earth inedible in their first ever encounter. This difference MIGHT be explained that the FF's initial transformation of the Earth's energy signature wore off and the world-eater later returned to consume the planet, but was stopped a second time, again by the FF, this time wielding the Ultimate Nullifier.

One interpretation of quantum mechanics is that "all the possibilities described by quantum theory simultaneously occur in a multiverse."
