SPIDER-MAN REVENGE SQUAD

Membership: Gibbon, Grizzly (Maxwell Markham), Kangaroo (Brian Hibbs), Spot

Purpose: To obtain revenge on Spider-Man

Affiliations: None

Enemies: Spider-Man (Peter Parker)

Aliases: Legion of Losers

Base of Operations: The Grizzly's apartment

First Appearance: Spectacular Spider-Man II#244 (March, 1997)

History: (Spectacular Spider-Man II#244) - After a very quick (and largely self-inflicted) defeat by Spider-Man, the Kangaroo was rescued and recruited by the Grizzly.

(Spectacular Spider-Man II#245) - Back at the Grizzly's apartment, the Kangaroo and the Grizzly squabbled until they were interrupted by the arrival of the Spider-Man Revenge Squad's two other members - the Gibbon and the Spot!

(Spectacular Spider-Man II#245) - The Squad used one of the Spot's portals to enter a bank vault, which they then looted.  The Gibbon and the Grizzly objected to the robbery, as they had intended the group to be devoted soleley to revenge on Spider-Man.  Fed up with the avaricious Spot and Kangaroo, they left - accidentally tripping the alarm.  While the Gibbon and the Grizzly fled on foot, Spot and Kangaroo escaped via portal.  Gibbon and Grizzly encountered Spider-Man, and although the web-slinger offered to let them go if they just returned the money, they tried to attack him, resulting in the Grizzly getting his arm stuck in a brick wall.  The arrival of Spot and Kangaroo turned the tide, allowing them to overwhelm and defeat the wallcrawler.

Taking him back to their secret headquarters (or, rather, the Grizzly's apartment), the Spot expressed his desire to place him in a lethal deathtrap, while Gibbon and Grizzly wanted to let him go and return the money.  Distraught at the possibility of losing the money he intended to spend on items in the Sharper Villain catalogue, the Kangaroo attacked the Gibbon, only to be knocked out by the Grizzly.  The Spot then turned on the Grizzly, but he too was defeated with the help of the Gibbon.  Spider-Man (who had been playing possum) congratulated them and took Kangaroo and Spot off to prison, leaving the Grizzly and Gibbon to contemplate fighting crime instead of committing it.

Comments: Created by J.M. DeMatteis, Luke Ross, and John Stanisci.

The Grizzly/Gibbon crime-fighting team lasted for a while, and managed to help defeat the White Rabbit once, but eventually both returned to crime.

The Revenge Squad was only referred to as the Legion of Losers on the cover, and in the title of the story, but apparently it was redubbed the Legion of Losers by the media or something, because the Spot mentions being a member of "the Legion of Losers" in Supervillain Team-Up: MODOK's 11 #2.
