Powers/Abilities: Slorioth is a powerful mystic entity able to disrupt temporal continuity. He could grant vast mystical powers to agents and corrupted souls with his foul essence. Because his nature was to continually expand he was deemed too dangerous by other entities to exist in one dimension. His corporal form was nearly 60 feet tall and possessed nearly unlimited strength and resistance to any form of attack. The acidic touch of his many tentacles burnt his victims and corrupted their minds.

History:

(Secret Defenders#23 (fb) - BTS) - 15.000 years ago Slorioth ravaged Earth until a cabal of ancient sorcerers bound his body and soul to the land that was later known as Starkesboro. Over the next 15.000 years the enchantment which restricted Slorioth's movement had grown fatigue.

(Secret Defenders#22 (fb) - BTS) - When Jillian Woods was slain by a demon, Dr. Druid used the Bride of Slorioth statue to retain her soul. Jillian became Shadowoman, unaware that she had died. Each time Jillian was made substantial part of Druid's soul was collected within the Bride of Slorioth and corrupted by the foul powers of Slorioth.

(Dr. Strange: Sorcerer Supreme Annual#4/2 - BTS) - Slorioth participated in the War of the Seven Spheres and attempted to conquer the Dark Dimension.

(Quasar#45-46, 50, Secret Defenders#15-21 - all BTS) - More and more of Druid's soul was collected within the Bride of Slorioth. The fragments were corrupted by Slorioth until the dark part of Druid's soul had become bigger than the good part.

(Secret Defenders#22 - BTS) - Druid made a bargain with Slorioth. Druid wanted more power and Slorioth wished to be released from his prison.

(Secret Defenders#23 - BTS) - Dr. Druid led Sepulcre, Cadaver, Deathlok, Drax and Dagger to the door to Slorioth's prison. After Drax, Dagger and Deathlok had defeated manifestations of their deepest fears, Druid opened the door with the Bride of Slorioth statue.

(Secret Defenders#24) - Druid walked down the corridor to Slorioth's tabernacle followed by the Cognoscenti. Druid tried to gain power from Slorioth without releasing him from his prison, but the dark side of Druid's soul that had been stored within the Bride of Slorioth took control of Druid's body and used the Bride of Slorioth to release Slorioth from his prison. After 15.000 years Slorioth rose from the ground of Starkesboro.

(Secret Defenders#25) - Throughout Earth the rise of Slorioth was felt. In Starkesboro Slorioth was opposed by the Secret Defenders (Cadaver, Dagger, Deathlok, Drax, Sepulcre) and time-displaced Defenders (Hulk, Namor, Silver Surfer), but despite all their power Slorioth couldn't be felled by them. Slorioth's influence upon Earth slowly grew as the corrupted Dr. Druid gloated deep down at Slorioth's tabernacle in front of the Cognoscenti how most people won't even notice when all hope disappears. Meanwhile Sepulcre's power was sucked into Slorioth upon attacking him. Joshua Pryce of the Cognoscenti drew Cadaver and Sepulcre from the battlefield into the tabernacle to fight the corrupted Dr. Druid. The powers used by Druid caught the attention of the Vishanti, but Druid knew that Earth would be destroyed if the Vishanti faced him personally. They summoned the Living Tribunal and Joshua Pryce explained how Slorioth roaming free threatened even Eternity. Druid responded that Slorioth achieved freedom through fair means, but the Living Tribunal had heard enough and sent Slorioth to an unknown place because Slorioth's mere existence had always been too much for one dimension. Slorioth was abruptly drawn from Earth and disappeared in hovering clouds.

A cabal of sorcerers 15.000 years ago go after a powerful demon? Sounds like the Blood to me.

The town was mistakenly referred to as Starksboro in Secret Defenders#23 and to be part of Maine in Secret Defenders#24. Check out the discussion on Starkesboro in the town's own profile.
