History:

(Young Men#27/4 (fb) - BTS) - Willie Röese organized a dramatic Aquashow spectacle featuring swimming maidens as a front to help the Russian communist dubbed Mr. Big plunder an old sunken galleon and its gold treasure. Röese designed the Aquashow to be staged on a massive Aquatheater comprising several barges out to sea to distract from the illegal salvage operation. Röese hired Namora to be the female star of the show, who had already received a tip about the producer's shady associations and was secretly watching him.

(Young Men#27/4) - Röese was surprised to find Namor interested in a part in the Aquashow and hired him on the spot. While Namor was outside, trying on his ornate costume and bumping into Namora on the way, Estelle chided Röese for taking on the unpredictable and powerful Sub-Mariner, warning him of Mr. Big's wrath should the salvage theft plan fail as a result. However, Röese felt that his plan meant that he could keep an eye on Namor. Later, on board the salvage ship, Mr. Big blasted Röese and Estelle for involving Namor, unaware that Namor and Namora secretly overheard their plans. That night, during the Aquashow, the two Atlanteans dived into the sea toward the salvage ship, watched by the helpless Röese, who was nevertheless pleased that show was sold out. Röese rushed over to the salvage ship to warn Mr. Big and watched as his Russian boss was lowered into the sea in diving gear. Mr. Big was caught by Namor and Namora with the help of the underwater spectral crew of Cap'n Derelict. Climbing onto the boat, Namor nabbed Röese as he tried to escape and he was turned over to the "immigration authorities" despite his protestations that he would be sent to Siberian salt mines as punishment.

Comments: Created by Bill Everett (writer (?) & art).

Namor states that Mr. Big is an alias for Comrade Ivansky, but this may have been a derogatory anti-Russian remark on his part.

CLARIFICATIONS :
Willie Röese has no known connections to:

Cap'n Derelict

Cap'n Derelict

Cap'n Derelict was the head of the ghost crew of an old sunken 17th Century Frenchman galleon and he protected the gold treasure still left in the derelict, moving the treasure when divers came down and removing pipes from the surface that tried to raise the wreck. He and his semi-spectral crew decided to collaborate with Namor and Namora to capture the thieves, eventually toppling the gold coins of the treasure chest over Mr. Big, trapping him. He disappeared along with the treasure when Namor and Namora went down after capturing the communists.

Estelle

Estelle

Estelle was the assistant to Willie Röese and warned him against hiring Namor for the Aquashow, aware of his unpredictable nature and having witnessed his actions before. She was also sure of Mr. Big's terrible retaliation if Namor was to disrupt the show and the secret salvage operation. The arrest of Röese and Mr. Big gave her and Benny time to escape with the box office money.
