History:

(Uncanny X-Men#276/278 (fb) - BTS) - A group of genetically-bred Skrulls called Warskrulls began infiltrating Shi'ar culture. They used a Nexus Amplifier to assume total physical discorporation of their targets, adopting their super powers along with their physical appearance. They captured and replaced the Starjammers with members of their race as well as key components in government. The Warskrulls, acting under the direction of the paramount among them, posing as a Shi'ar called the Chamberlain, began committing murders and even genocide upon various Shi'ar affiliated races, such as the P!ndyr, in the name of the Shi'ar Empire. One Warskrull replaced the Imperial Consort, Professor X, called himself Warlord, and took mental control over Lilandra, the Majestrix of the Shi'ar.

(Uncanny X-Men#275) - Warlord led the "Starjammers" in an attack on Deathbird and members of the Imperial Guard (Earthquake, Gladiator, Oracle, Smasher, Starbolt, Tempest, Titan, Warstar). While the battle raged, "Ch'od" and Lilandra rushed in and found several X-Men (Banshee, Forge, Gambit, Jubilee, Psylocke, Storm, Wolverine) who'd been brought aboard by Deathbird and Lila Cheney. The X-Men helped subdue the Imperial Guard while Wolverine captured Deathbird. Warlord revealed himself as "Professor X" to the X-Men and they were happy to see him. Back on Chandilar, Lilandra presented a treaty to the Supreme Executive Council, made up of various alien races, which announced that she was resuming the throne. At the following coronation party, Chamberlain introduced himself to Storm and gauged the X-Men's abilities. Meanwhile, one of the Warskrulls kidnapped Psylocke and Warlord telepathically humbled Oracle and mentally took over Gladiator. He ordered Deathbird killed, not knowing Gambit and Jubilee were watching from the shadows.

(Uncanny X-Men#276) - Warlord ordered Gladiator to rip out Deathbird's wings, watching as she was tortured. The X-Men Gambit and Jubilee rushed in to save Deathbird and Gladiator protected Warlord from Gambit's exploding energy projectiles. Warlord found himself unable to take mental control of Gambit's thoughts, received a slash from Deathbird, then took mental control of Jubilee. Gambit and Deathbird double-teamed Gladiator, wrapped Warlord's head in a cape, and freed Jubilee in seconds. Gladiator threatened to kill Deathbird and threw her at the X-Men, accidentally destroying the wall that kept Lila Cheney captive. They freed Cheney, who teleported away with Deathbird. Jubilee attempted to overwhelm their opponents with a massive burst of fireworks, an act which alerted the rest of the Shi'ar to the battle, and the duo escaped. Lilandra, the X-Men, and the "Starjammers" rushed in to investigate and Warlord claimed that Deathbird had tried to assassinate him and then escaped. Storm conveyed concern about Gambit and Jubilee, but Warlord assured her he was psi-scanning for them. Wolverine shocked them all by leaping forward and killing Warlord, making the others believe that he had killed Xavier. "Psylocke" took mental control of Gladiator, then subdued Wolverine with a psychic knife. Lilandra, furious, ordered the "Starjammers" to seize the other X-Men, Forge, Banshee, and Storm. They were all then interrupted by Lila and Deathbird, who'd returned with artillery. They fired on the Starjammers and then Lila teleported away, taking the three X-Men with them. "Psylocke" altered Lilandra's memories to skew events, the "Starjammers" were sent after the X-Men, ordered to capture the females and kill the males, and the Warlord's body was reduced to dust by the Chamberlain (who was giving the orders to the others). The "Starjammers" tracked Deathbird and the X-Men to the P!ndyr homeworld, though they could not pinpoint their precise location. "Ch'od" suggested destroying the planet, but they decided the Chamberlain would go against that plan. They soon came across Storm and Banshee. Meanwhile, Chamberlain and "Psylocke" saw Wolverine and Jubilee copied while the captives were kept naked and in manacles. "Psylocke" grew concerned that their resources were being wasted on Jubilee, but Chamberlain theorized her powers would be fully realized. Though he knew the process would be painful, Chamberlain ordered that he be made into the next Professor X. After the process was complete, he made sure Lilandra was made loyal to him only.

(Uncanny X-Men#277) - The "Starjammers" were shocked when Gambit revealed himself on their ship and destroyed their firing controls. Gambit held some off while "Ch'od" fought against Forge, who tried shooting him in the face, and Banshee, who knocked him down with a scream. "Raza" leapt on Banshee and kept him from screaming by throwing dust in his throat, then Storm waylaid him with lightning. "Corsair" grew furious and tried killing Storm with a blast from his gun. She survived and kicked him back. "Corsair" advanced on her in his Skrull form. Meanwhile, Deathbird and Lila Cheney returned to Chandilar only to be approached by the new Warlord, Lilandra, Gladiator, "Psylocke", "Wolverine", and "Jubilee." He confessed the Warskrulls' plot and vowed to kill the X-Men. "Wolverine" and "Jubilee" downed Deathbird and then started fighting over who got to kill her, though "Psylocke" chided them, while Lila teleported away from Gladiator. Warlord realized that Xavier was using his telepathic powers to influence the Warskrulls. They were all shocked when the Starjammer ship burst through the wall and the remaining X-Men exited. "Wolverine" realized that Lila had teleported them there. Gambit dealt with Gladiator with an exploding pack of cards. Forge managed to shoot "Psylocke" into "Jubilee" (Barely able to resist her psychic knife), and "Psylocke" was knocked into the Nexus Amplifier, disrupting her pattern and triggering a partial reversion to her base form. She was furious that she'd have to duplicate a new person instead. Storm scattered the Warskrulls with lightning and was nearly captured by "Wolverine" when Gambit put a spear through his back. "Wolverine" leapt to attack Gambit only to be knocked down by Banshee's scream. Warlord then hit them all with a telepathic attack. Warlord tried ordering Lilandra to kill Storm, but Deathbird stopped her. Warlord prepared to hold them all telepathically in place and then kill them all, but Xavier freed himself and attacked Warlord both physically and mentally, knocking Warlord out. The Shi'ar vowed to weed out any other Warskrulls.

(Uncanny X-Men#466 (fb) - BTS) - One Warskrull, Flaw, was recruited into the Shi'ar Death Commandos.

(Uncanny X-Men#478 (fb) - BTS) - A group of Warskrulls attacked a remote Shi'ar space station and took it over. Disguised as Shi'ar, they were taken aboard the space station willingly and slaughtered all those aboard except a few to keep working the ship.

(Uncanny X-Men#478) - A group of X-Men (Darwin, Havok, Marvel Girl (Rachel Grey), Nightcrawler, Professor X, Warpath) boarded the station and some of the Warskrulls posed like Shi'ar to welcome them. Marvel Girl telepathically convinced them to let them in on the ship without questions. Havok and Polaris accidentally discovered a room full of slaughtered Shi'ar, however. One of the Warskrulls fired on Darwin and Nightcrawler, and the airlock was broken sucking Darwin out into space. Nightcrawler tried to kill that Warskrull by teleporting him into space, but he formed a helmet around his head that allowed him to breathe. Another Warskrull attacked Warpath and Marvel Girl with an axe. Marvel Girl found herself overwhelmed with psychic feedback, and they assumed a Warskrull had an implant that was jamming her powers. Warpath held off the attacking Warskrull while another moved on Professor X, only to be blasted aside by Havok. That Warskrull absorbed the power from Havok's blast to charge up his forcefield, but Polaris quickly overwhelmed several of the Warskrulls with magnetic feedback to their brains, and destroyed the psychic feedback device. Warpath kicked the only one who was still conscious. Marvel Girl then used her telekinesis to defeat the other Skrulls.

The Warskrulls were initially distinguished from the other Skrulls due to the nexus amplifier and power mimicry. More recently, they seem to be cyborgs.

The Warskrulls received an entry in the Skrulls! one-shot.
