History:
(Tales of Suspense I#87/1) - In preparation for his planned invasion of the surface world, the Mole Man sank one of Tony Stark's factory buildings below the earth's surface, with Iron Man and Pepper Potts still in it.

(Tales of Suspense I#88/1) - As Iron Man was leading Pepper on the long trek through the tunnels of Subterranea back to the surface, the Mole Man sent a small army of Moloid subterraneans to attack them; following their defeat, the Mole Man next sent the Mechanical Dragon after Iron Man and Pepper Potts. The automated monster broke through a tunnel wall and shot a flaming blast at Iron Man. Iron Man ducked out of the way and fired his repulsor ray at it, which damaged the dragon and snuffed out its flame, but the repulsor ray wasn't powerful enough to hold back the mechanized creature, which tried to trample Iron Man. Iron Man then withdrew an explosive pellet from his armor and threw it into the creature's main circuit complex, blowing the Mechanical Dragon to pieces.

The Mechanical Dragon was likely leftover Deviant technology discovered by the Mole Man.
