History:

(X-Treme X-Men: Savage Land#1-2 - BTS) - Brainchild created a new Mutate, Vertigo, bestowing powers upon one of the indigenous savages from the Savage Land, just as the other Mutates had been created by Magneto. She joined with the other Mutates (Amphibius, Barbarus, Gaza, Lupa, Vertigo, Whiteout) in a plot to control the Savage Land. The Mutates waged war on the united tribes, the X-Men (Beast (Henry McCoy), Bishop, Rogue, Sage, Storm, Thunderbird (Neal Shaara)), and the race of Saurids (including C'rel and Khadar).

(X-Treme X-Men: Savage Land#3) - Amphibius, Barbarus, Brainchild, Gaza, Lupa, and Whiteout looked on as Leash tried to bring Rogue under her control, but Rogue's defenses were too strong. Brainchild commended her for her efforts.

(X-Treme X-Men: Savage Land#4) - The Mutates attacked the X-Men and their allies in a Savage Land city. Leash took control over Thunderbird and had him hit Bishop with a blast of power to show her control, seemingly killing Bishop. The Mutates then enslaved the Saurids and humans, Leash making many of them surrender themselves to captivity. Brainchild watched as Leash worked to assert control over C'rel. Battle broke out again, and Leash rushed into the dungeons to find some captives to put under her control and found Sage there. She tried controlling Sage, but Sage took control of Leash instead. Her powers neutralized, the Saurid captives' wills were restored and they moved to attack the Mutates. The Mutates were soon defeated and placed into custody.

(Uncanny X-Men#458 - BTS) - When the Savage Land was overrun by the other-dimensional Hauk'ka (sentient evolved dinosaurs), the Mutates (Amphibius, Barbarus, Brainchild, Gaza, Leash, Lupo, Vertigo, Whiteout) were freed and offered pardons in return for their help against the Hauk'ka. They allied with Ka-Zar and Zabu as well.

(Uncanny X-Men#457 - BTS) - They then met Psylocke and X-23 of the X-Men and joined forces.

(Uncanny X-Men#457) - Psylocke and X-23 led their new allies to recently freed captives Bishop, Nightcrawler, and several humans and Saurids (including Jimi, M'kai, S'gur, and Viri). They fought off R'chel (the transformed Marvel Girl) and Ma'sa'no of the Hauk'ka.

(Uncanny X-Men#458) - Furious, Bishop wanted revenge on Brainchild, but was convinced by Ka-Zar that an alliance was necessary. A Hauk'ka hunting party immediately attacked them, and Vertigo knocked many of them from the air. A battle ensued, and  Leash took mental control over Ka-Zar and forced him to abandon the battle in order to protect Brainchild. The Mutates soon retreated with their allies, and a massive weather system struck the Savage Land.

(Uncanny X-Men#459) - While a massive cold front moved over the world, Brainchild encouraged Leash to take control of Raina's mind as she had Ka-Zar's, and Leash did so until X-23 leaped at her, sensing what she'd done. Leash released her two captives, and Raina immediately wanted revenge, but her restraints prevented her. Brainchild denied knowing of Leash's actions and sent Leash away. The weather later returned to normal.
