History: (Incredible Hulk I#1/Giant-Size Incredible Hulk#1 (fb)) - Captain Dave Anderson was head of security at Los Diablos Missile Base when Dr. Robert Bruce Banner was first preparing to test his Gamma Bomb weapon. When Rick Jones entered the test site area, Banner entered the field to rescue him. Unfortunately, Banner's assistant Igor Drenkov was a spy and allowed the bomb to detonate in an effort to kill him.

(Giant-Size Incredible Hulk#1 (fb)) - Captain Anderson was in the security detail who found Banner and Jones after the bomb blast and rushed Banner to medical facilites. The next day, Anderson inspected damages inflicted to the base by a creature which his men had named "the Hulk."

(Incredible Hulk I#1/Giant-Size Incredible Hulk#1 (fb)) - Captain Anderson and his men arrested Igor Drenkov after learning he was the saboteur of the bomb test and had tried to steal Banner's papers. Captain Anderson interrogated Banner about the Hulk, but Banner seemed so disoriented and confused that Anderson did not suspect he was the creature.

(Incredible Hulk I#2/Giant-Size Incredible Hulk#1 (fb)) - Captain Anderson was part of a team of soldiers led by General Ross to capture the Hulk, who was inside Ross' own home with his daughter Betty. Anderson watched as a dozen of his men tried to tackle the Hulk, only to be easily discarded. The Hulk fled with Betty as his prisoner, but she was released when he reverted to Banner.

(Incredible Hulk I#2) - Ross also had Anderson and his men pursue Banner, thinking he was in league with the extraterrestrial Tribbitites. Banner was narrowly able to use his Gamma Gun to repel the Toad Men's ships.

(Giant-Size Incredible Hulk#1) - Now retired, Anderson consented to an interview with Fred Sloan, who was preparing a book about the Hulk. Anderson felt that he was responsible for the Hulk's creation because he had failed to catch Igor Drenkov's sabotage of the Gamma Bomb. Anderson related the story behind his encounters with the Hulk, but said that he had not seen him since - except in his nightmares.

The corporal from Incredible Hulk Annual#17 - the one who named the Hulk - would have been part of Anderson's security detail.
