THE X-HUMED

Membership: Black Bishop (Leland), Changeling, Living Diamond, Scaleface

Purpose: To serve the Black Talon in combat

Affiliations: Black Talon (Barone), Garth

Enemies: Louise Grant Mason, She-Hulk

Base of Operations: A swamp in Louisiana.

First Appearance: Sensational She-Hulk#34 (December, 1991)

History: (Sensatinoal She-Hulk#34) - While investigating a murder involving a zombie, She-Hulk and her friend Louise Mason encountered the Black Talon. Using his voodoo powers, he created four zombies, all of whom were mutants. Naming them the X-Humed, he ordered them to attack She-Hulk.

(Sensatinoal She-Hulk#35) - She-Hulk fought three of the X-Humed members individually, while the fourth, Changeling, attempted to free a tied-up Mason. Believing him to be attempting to harm her, She-Hulk knocked him into the others. While She-Hulk was distracted, the Talon and the X-Humed attempted to escape in a hearse. Driving by a police car, Changeling morphed into Elvis Presley to get their attention. The pursuing She-Hulk caused the car to crash, and asked Changeling why he did what he did. He explained that he had spent too much time before he died trying to atone for his crimes, and with the Talon not able to keep full control of all four at once, he did his best to stop him. All four were reportedly re-buried afterwards.

Comments: Created by John Byrne and Keith Williams.

Short profile, but even Byrne admitted in the book they were there for no reason other than to sell the book to X-fans. The Black Talon's ultimate reason for gathering bodies of dead mutants to turn into zombies was never revealed, though I'd imagine he's got a lot more fodder for that plan now these days.

The X-Humed are pictured in the Black Talon entry in Mystic Arcana: The Book of Marvel Magic.
