Powers/Abilities: Larry Freese was trained as a commando operative by Nick Fury, which included parachuting, defusing explosives, and underwater diving. Freese was considered "frosty," and was dedicated to completing missions.

History: (Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos#116) - Larry Freese was a new recruit who was assigned along with Lon Wilcox, James MacReedy and Russ Talbert to be put through training by Sgt. Nick Fury, who had been temporarily removed from fieldwork due to mental problems. Fury ran all four of the recruits hard, but Freese remained "frosty," apparently never troubled by the sargeant's rough talk.

Freese and the others were finally given an actual mission by Fury, to defuse an underwater minefield set up by the Germans to destroy Allied submarines. As they began to defuse the mines, MacReedy was attacked by Nazi frogmen, and Fury went to help him. Freese saw this, but having defused his mines and set charges to destroy them, he decided he should obey orders and leave rather than help MacReedy. The mission was ultimately a success, but MacReedy was killed. Freese apologized to Fury, but Fury told him that he had done nothing wrong by following orders-- but that next time, it wouldn't hurt him to "stretch" his orders.
