Powers/Abilities: James MacReedy was trained as a commando operative by Nick Fury, which included parachuting, defusing explosives, and underwater diving. He almost always carried a pipe of tobacco with him.

History: (Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos#116) - James MacReedy was a new recruit who was assigned along with Lon Wilcox, Larry Freese and Russ Talbert to be put through training by Sgt. Nick Fury, who had been temporarily removed from fieldwork due to mental problems. Fury ran all four of the recruits hard, but MacReedy accepted the sargeant's rough behavior, knowing he stood to benefit from it. He also became friends with Russ Talbert, who was often picked on by the other recruits. During one overnight pass, MacReedy and Wilcox both tried to pick up the same woman, but she wound up going out with Sgt. Fury.

MacReedy and the others were finally given an actual mission by Fury, to defuse an underwater minefield set up by the Germans to destroy Allied submarines. As MacReedy was defusing his mines, he was attacked by a team of Nazi frogmen. Although Fury came to assist him, MacReedy was overwhelmed by their superior numbers, and was stabbed to death. Seeing MacReedy die wound up encouraging Talbert into overcoming his fear, and he helped avenge his fallen friend.
