Orleans, Louisiana
First Appearance: Epic Anthology II#1/3 (April, 2004)
Powers/Abilities:
As a ghost, the Whisperer existed as a ghost, apparently possessing a
translucent and presumably intangible form.
Able to pass through walls, floors, etc., he was often witness to events that others wished to keep secret; he may or may not have been able to become completely invisible and/or undetectable at will.
He also chose to wake up sleeping
people to share secrets he learned with others, at least in some cases
with those who may have been affected by those secrets.
History:
(Epic
Anthology II#1/3 (fb) - BTS) - The Whisperer apparently observed as an
adulteress wife brought her lover to a room at the Dauterive
Hotel.
(Epic Anthology II#1/3 (fb) - BTS) - When the husband stayed at the same hotel, presumably with his wife, the Whisperer passed up through the floor and told him that his wife had been there once before with another man, a guy with a ponytail and with whom she worked.
(Epic Anthology II#1/3 (fb) - BTS) - Believing his wife's lover to be a guy who worked on website design, the husband put a bladed weapon to his wife's throat. The circumstances allowed Lou and another detective, as well as at least four other police officers, to show up in their room to try to stop him.
(Epic
Anthology II#1/3) - Young mystic Sofia Strange arrived in the couple's
room, and she observed the ghostly form of the Whisperer there (either
giving the "peace" symbol or putting "bunny ears" way above the cop's
head).
Although confirming what the Whisperer had said was true, Sofia transformed the husband's knife into a facsimile of a Trussardi handbag; with the man disarmed, the police tackled (and presumably arrested) him.
Sofia greeted the Whisperer, who
told her he had secrets. Acknowledging this, she advised him to keep a
few of them to himself (or just to share with her).
Comments: Created by Jason Henderson and Greg Scott.
My understanding of a ghost is that it is the spirit of a person who had died but still remains exists on the physical/mortal plane; although usually insubstantial and/or invisible, they may be able to interact with living beings and/or physical objects.
The intention of the writer was that Sophia was the son of Stephen Strange and Clea, but that was not stated in the story. The Vampires: Marvel Undead entry confirmed the existence of Diana LaCroix and her mother, Carmen, who were involved in Sofia's story, but anything beyond that is unrevealed...is she the daughter of Dr. Strange and Clea? Does she pose as their daughter without any basis? Is there something else to the story?
As Dr. Strange's history as a
sorcerer does indeed date back to the 1960s, there's no reason that the
story of Sofia Strange could not have taken place in or around 2004 as
opposed to being tied to the modern era.
The Whisperer originally had a
sub-profile within the Sofia Strange profile by Madison Carter circa
01/16/2007.
This profile was
completed 11/24/2024, but its publication was delayed as it was intended
for the Appendix 25th anniversary 's celebratory event.

CLARIFICATIONS:
The Whisperer should be distinguished from:

(Epic Anthology II#1/3) - The police officers told the husband to calm down, but he insisted he would not, not after what "he" said. He soon discussed the kid passing up through the floor and what he had told him. The husband continued that he had figured that he knew the guy as the one who did the website, and he asked/told the cops, "You know how you know there's something wrong when you've heard someone's name and then you don't hear that name anymore?" When he pressured his wife
about the ponytail guy, she reminded him that he had had a
ponytail
until he was 33-years-old, and she started to ask him what right
he had
to, but he told her, "Shut up!" Young mystic Sofia Strange then
arrived in the couple's
room, and she observed the ghostly form of the Whisperer there.

guided the cops to forget that she had ever been there. Note: Lou is the primary officer with the receding hairline and without the mustache. |
